love
do you really believe in love? the more i think about it, i just believe in any relationship, it usually starts out with both parties getting something they want, for a man, usually sex, for the woman, money or something like that. "love" is more a fear of change that is natural to people. you can say you love someone, or you would die for them, but if you were drowning, and they tried to save you, you would push them under to keep your head above water for as long as possible. would you do that to someone you "loved"?
I also used to get nervous before having sex with a girl that i liked, because i was inexperienced. im probably still no better at sex (i dont lie to myself) but i dont care. i dont care if the girl likes it, as long as she isn't dry, i dont fall into that trap of looking at a girl as a friend, or a companion. because i know when it came down to it, she would do whatever she could to save herself. thats why i would never tell anyone i would die for them. i may die trying to do something for myself, but i wouldn't sacrifice my own life so anyone else could live.
love just seems to me like someone that would change your life if they were no longer in it in a certain way.

Re: love
I don't believe love is anything magical; I don't believe in soulmates or true love or anything like that. But I think it's a real feeling.

It really depends on if it's your own child, or if it's your partner, or any number of other variables. But yes, in a lot of cases, yes.

Re: love
Sort of like what Rory said, I don't think that 'love' exists as the sort of magical, spiritual force that a lot of poeple seem to think it is, but I do think that there is a certain set of biological and psychological connections that one can build towards a person that fit the definition of 'love.' Basically, the concept of 'love' is humanity trying to put a name on a set of connections that would be too complex to discuss otherwise--a belief that someone else in the world improves your life, or is essential to your life, or that their life is more important than your own.
Also, there are plenty of people who would actually sacrifice themselves for others, even without love involved. People jump on grenades, tackle criminals, jump in front of cars, whatever, for friends, family, or even a particularly helpless looking stranger all the time. Again, I don't think this is some sort of 'human spirit' thing, but there is a biological impulse within us to preserve certain elements of the human race that we perceive as having positive benefits to our gene survival.

Yeah, you're just a self-centered prick, that's all it is. A mentality like you have(on a mass scale) is what leads to police states and dictatorship.

Re: love
Yes, I believe in love, and I believe people are capable of self-sacrifice in order to preserve the life of someone they claim to love, or even as an act of love.
I don't necessarily condone the obsessive love that dictates a certain individual's life to the point where they feel they can't function without their object of affection, but I do believe in the drive that causes a person to humble themselves for the betterment of someone else.
A surrender of sorts, a humility otherwise unrecognizable in the said-person that pushes them to adore, devote and admire the person their pumping-tool has claimed is definitely something I believe the human race is capable of, sure.
Some of the greatest feelings I've ever experienced are those that related to the well-being, pleasure and happiness of another individual over my own.

Re: love
I struggle with the idea of love because what if someone's love isn't returned? Does that make their love any less valid? We always assume love is mutual but in reality it isn't necessarily so.

Re: love
I don't believe in love for maaany reasons. If there is such thing, then at the least I don't believe in it for me. I think it's an abstract emotion that people think they feel. To be in Love...sounds kinda odd to me. I wouldn't want to dedicate such a heavy word to a person unless I actually knew it was a true emotion. /: Ah well. Maybe it's real, maybe it isn't.

Re: love
I believe in love, but I don't believe it's necessarily a good thing, nor necessary at all to a good relationship.

Re: love
I think it exists, but like many nice things in this world only a small percentage of the population actually get it.
