Okay, well a few days ago whilst browsing the internet a few days ago and came across what seems to be the new type of metal (Deathcore, grindcore, new death metal, call it whatever you want.) And honest to god it is utter shit. Don't get me wrong, I like few bands from this genre, and even those bands I can't listen to for extended periods of time. Let me break it down why these bands suck, I have very good reasons!

First of all, here are some examples of what I'm talking about:
The bad category:
"Suicide" Silence.
Brain drill. I'll admit these guys are a bit better, but not much.
Annotations of an autopsy. Sounds like someone fucked a pig.
Hymen holocaust. What the fuck.
Cock and ball torture. Creative name!

The good category:
Job for a cowboy. Yep, I gotta admit these guys are better then most of those idiots. But...NOT MUCH!
All shall perish. These guys are just awesome.
The Acacia Strain Very interesting guitar work in some songs.

That's about where the good list ends, without putting on cannibal corpse. Ugh, where do I start?
1) The "bad" bands just sound like they wanted to hit the drums very hard. Job for a cowboy does this too...I can't really explain why they're on the good list, but they ARE better then those other ones.
2) There are so many of these bands out I can't take it seriously, it's like a new one comes out every week. Seriously!
3) The lyrics would get a F in a grade nine english class. Here are samples from different bands:

Okay, but enough with that...want to know my biggest complaint? The one thing that really is fucking horrible? Here it is:
These guys think that they're hardcore. All of there lyrics are the same, and all they do is play..."noise" we really need to take a step backwards to the time where playing extreme metal meant not only did you just say things, you actually did them too. (Like stabbing gay guys in the forest at night). Or maybe norwegians are just weird. Anyway, people like burzum are just so into it that it makes it good, and they believed in what they were doing. I honestly think these new guys just want to make a few bucks for the shock value- even in jail Varg still wrote music- which is a perfect example of how you don't need to be hardcore to be absolutely badass. Listen to "Rundgang um die transzendentale Säule der Singularität" by him. Afterwards, if you're not asleep, you certainly won't feel like killing someone. I think people in the metal scene are trying to hard...way to hard.

Eh, I'm done ranting. I don't want to cram to much bitching into one post so I'll let people respond and we'll see where it goes...

Yeah, i never really got into Myspace Metal. They are doing (almost exactly) the same thing bands have been doing since the mid to late 80s.
At least bands like Between the Buried... are bringing the genre forward to a more mindful experience.

Who the fuck are you to say what is and isn't music? Oh but you know what you're talking about, with your "very good reasons". These bands don't come out promising groundbreakingly innovative material or anything like that, nor do you know what they're thinking. If you've ever seen suicide silence live, then you would know that there are few bands out there that are into what they're doing more than they are. With some exceptions (bands doing it to look cool), most of these bands just play the music they like, have a fucking blast doing it, and could give two shits about what people like you think, because they're will always be people who like them.

It doesn't matter if you enjoy it, I enjoy beating things with a baseball bat but I'm not going to go do it in the streets and show it off to everyone. The point is they're idiots, because even if they're into it I do not think any of them live the music (like I said in my last point). Also, I firmly believe many of the bands I put in the "bad" category are doing it to "be cool" I actually think the ones in the good category might be a bit more into it then the others.

Not that I like deathcore. It's absurdly gay. But that doesn't make it not music. It takes someone with a maturity over the age of fucking 14 to realize that music doesn't have to be good; there is no impetus on quality. It is merely expressing emotional content with the hopes of having it resonate with someone else, even if that resonance is strange or uncomfortable to other people. Yes and Genesis give me that funny feeling. This gives that feeling to someone else. They aren't the same feeling, but they don't aim to be or have to be.

Seriously, just because you don't like a genre of music doesn't allow you to dictate whether it is or isn't music.

I don't like anime. I HATE anime, and I sometimes consider it to be a slide show with flashing backgrounds; but it is still animation. I could record myself farting and edit it to a real basic beat and it would probably be better than Soulja Boy, but his crap is still music.
