Halfway correct as far as I can tell, although you fell for the real perpetrators trap.

It appears raidchan and pacifico got bored and started a massive DDoS crusade, taking down nearly all the chans, including the overchan, and pinned it first on partyvan.fm, but then once they took that sucker down, blamed it on anontalk.

Feckloads of pissed off /b/tards and other scum then ran around the internet looking for anyone to attack in retaliation, took down anontalk briefly, got infected with botnets as you say, had their DDoS' referred to their own site, and generally got pushed around. Then they realised raidchan was mostly behind this, or at least a user, and DDoS'd the site into oblivion.
