So, In america the amount of Thujone is limited in absinthe.
Does this make it less effective?

Definitely plays a role.

In the Absinthes with higher thujone content will usually give you noticeable psychoactive effects, which is why it's regulated in a lot of countries. You can just buy your own though and add it, just look up proper methods online.
Wormwood is largely responsible too.

Its use has been claimed to remedy indigestion and gastric pain, it acts as an antiseptic, and as a febrifuge. For medicinal use, the herb is used to make a tea for helping pregnant women during pain of labor. A dried encapsulated form of the plant is used as an anthelmintic. A wine can also be made by macerating the herb. It is also available in powder form and as a tincture. The oil of the plant can be used as a cardiac stimulant to improve blood circulation. Pure wormwood oil is very poisonous, but with proper dosage poses little or no danger. Wormwood is mostly a stomach medicine.

I don't know much about absinthe, but I thought it was illegal in the States. Perhaps I should buy some wormwood. And a spoon.

Be very careful when making your own, wormwood can be deadly. There are plenty of guides online to give you the correct measurements and methods of making it.

Re: Absinthe and Thujone
to be honest, a lot of the time the stuff is so alcoholic that people get confused as to what they're supposed to be feeling anyway... like some of the 80% or so stuff, you take a few shots of that and you're well on your way, and that + the possible placebo effect could make you "see" some green fairies.
With genuine absinthe though, yes, I believe it does make quite a big difference. There is so much crap available though, that I think you really need to know your sources to get good stuff (I'm not claiming to know much, just that most stuff out there isn't really that great).

You can't go out and buy absinthe from a liqueur store but you can buy absinthe kits because thujone is not illegal.

Re: Absinthe and Thujone
FYI the "safe" wormwood used is the north-American one.
I definitely do not advise you to try making and consuming European wormwood based alcoholic beverage.
Finally, let me lay down some wisdom, to elucidate the over all psychology of this and many other topics in BLTC.
Most of the people lured in by this type of marketing, are the same people who trip balls on Adrenochrome.
They are still the same exact sheep, just on the other side of the fence.

Re: Absinthe and Thujone
There are also many types of wormwood, and I am not sure if the ones sold in america are the same.
We have one called Lucid that is really good.

Re: Absinthe and Thujone

Correct! Actually, the wormwood that's usually sold in the US doesn't have any thujone. This is why a lot of Americans think it doesn't do anything.

Lucid is shit. You just get trashed before you feel anything from the thujone. I can also take shots of it. You should NOT be able to take straight shots of absinthe.
My friend has a still, and makes his own absinthe with ingredients that he gets from Switzerland (I think that's where he said, anyway). That shit makes Lucid look like Smirnoff Ice. He makes it to about 170 proof and it's clear until you add water/sugar. 2 drinks will usually do you, and it's not a normal drunk. You'll get good and tipsy, but it's also very euphoric and gives you a little bit of energy. Not like cracked-out, just motivated. It really is a little bit of a hallucinogen, but no more than THC.

Isn't that completely contradictory to "definitely plays a role"?
And by the way, absinthe isn't going to make you trip, k? It is, however, going to get you royally fucked because it has an awesome taste. I've tried authentic absinthe and also the recently reintroduced American absinthe and this is how I feel.
This isn't to say that there aren't absinthes that are psychoactive. I'm sure there's plenty of recipes (past and present) that actually include undisclosed ingredients which contribute to Absinthe's stigma. However, you're not seeing things from the thujone.

Re: Absinthe and Thujone
does anyone know the legality of buying absinthe from overseas vendors and having it shipped to the states, I am very interested in getting some Czech Absinthe with a high thujone content.

I went to an absinthe lounge and had real absinthe and it had me feeling great. Not seeing shit and not like alcohol alone.

Don't waste your time on it.
It tastes nasty as shit, and the effects aren't that great.
Just buy some nice gin instead.

i've had american absinthe, i actually like the taste, what im wondering is if the Absinthe with an actual thujone content has a different taste, or does it still have the nice strong anise taste?

Re: Absinthe and Thujone
I've had both American and real Czech Absinthe and there is a huge difference. I believe the shitty American kind had southern wormwood in it. I really did enjoy the Czech Absinthe though, it didn't make me see green fairies and shit but it seemed like a drunkeness mixed with a mild weed high, definetely different than just alcohol alone. I gotta get me some more of that sometimes.

The anise taste is much stronger in good absinthe. It's also much more crisp tasting.
