It fucking pisses me the fuck off.

Everytime I switch the resolution to 1024x768, it resets its self when I restart.

When I switch the refresh rate to 85hz from 60hz, it resets its self when I restart [and yes my monitor can go that high as on windows it's at 100hz].

Why the fuck won't it just leave my settings alone? Usually what happens is I switch it to 85hz, and the screen goes black so I have to use the reset button, then it either is at 85hz next time I load up, or it just completely ignores it. Same for the resolution.

Fedora can go fuck its self in the ass, unless somebody can help me with my problem?

I have an ATI 3850 if that makes any difference.

How are you changing the resolution?..using a gnome GUI app?..if so. You might want to change it in the xorg.conf file. I recently did the same with the built-in gnome app and when i restarted, it just went back to the default. Then i decided to add a specific resolution to the xorg.conf fine and now it just stays.

Is it really a fedora 9 issue tho?, surely if you were to use another distro, you'll have the same problem.

How do I edit the xorg.conf file to make it right?

To become root, type...

su -

Then type..

gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

It'll open in gedit, and you should see a "monitor" and "screen" section. Add it as a value within there. Don't worry, when you see what it looks like within side the file, you'll understand. There is just basic settings with values. Change the values and save/exit the file.

That's my xorg.conf file and I don't see which bit you mean to edit?

jeeez how come your xorg.conf file is so small?..Have you been playing with it in the past?...It had the screen section, which looks fine to me. But it doesn't have a monitor section, you might have to add that.

But first, you want to change your resolution to 1204x768, but after restart, it doesn't stay?...does that mean the setting goes back to 800 x 600?

It goes back to something weird like 1280x1128 or something [those aren't the exact numbers, but it's in the rangish].

I've never touched the file except from when I've changed the settings on the GUI apps.

Alright under "section device" section add this new section between section device and section screen. save and exit. Restart system, the change settings to how you want. Restart system once more.
