When He Brings Her Around...
Youngest still lives with us, he's 17 1/2. His girlfriend is here most days, normally up in his bedroom with him while he helps her with her homework (she's only 16).
Nah I'm only kidding, the thought of him helping anyone with their homework is ridiculous seeing as he still moves his lips when he tries to read (BADLY dyslexic). They're up there working on my first grandchild.
Anyways what I am finding quite difficult is talking to him like he is an adult, at least in her presence. Isn't helped by the fact he still often says 'Daddy' and not 'Dad'.
I have to constantly remind myself that he is old enough to marry, to join the army etc (although thanks to our stupid laws he can't actually watch a film about what married people do in bed or buy cigarettes to smoke afterwards).
It is difficult. I have spoken to him as a child for almost 18 years and now I need to break that habit.
So people, and the point to this thread, is simply to say that when you take her home with you then realise it isn't easy for parents to make that mental leap and suddenly treat you more like a man than a boy. Have some patience with them.
Course it also helps if you act like a man...

It has its downside. I have to get in the car now and drive crippled son over to another town so he can see his girlfriend/get laid.

Your kids may have a lot of sex, but how many of the girls are actual quality? Not that every woman you shag has to be a Goddess, but do they at least know how to cook?

Re: When He Brings Her Around...
Awesome man and good father ketch but a big part of being a father is about preparing your children for the real world. Your kid, he's an adult now. An absolute adult and I think that you have to accept that first before he can. The big difference between being an adult and being a child is that when your a child your parents are responsible for your welfare. When youre an adult (as your son practically is/almost is) you are singularly and wholly responsible for your life and your problems. No cop out. No blaming daddy, the girlfriend, the mom, the school, the this or that. You are what you make yourself and your life.
Realize that he has this responsibility and most importantly, give it to him. Let him make his own decisions and his own mistakes. Now you are not the decider you are the helper and the one who will help him up when he falls. You are his rock and stone. Its u to him. Warn him of all you can, be a parent, nag, but respect him.
I suspect that since your middle son is disabled and has required a lot of your intense care and affection some of that seeps over to your youngest. But in a way...you have to let him go. You gotta him let him be a man if you want him to be a man and treat him as a man. Then you can fully recognize him as a man.
