i have recently read the erowid article on extracting thc from weed using the butane extraction method. i was wondering if any of you guys have ever done it and if its cost effective, and also its difficulty. as well as if you can easily sell the resulting oil and how you would use the shit once you've extracted it. thanks.

Cost effective? No. How to use it? Put it on weed, or in a vape. As far as difficulty, that all depends on your ghetto engineering skills. I can whip up a BHO machine in an hour.

As for an ounce worth, no, there are always product losses. No extraction technique has 100% yields.

Now hold on there cupcake, that all depends on what you're using as raw material.

While I agree that it is far from cost effective to use it on good buds, It is quite cost effective if you use plant trimmings. See, I have a couple of friends who grow for the medical clubs and I get pounds of clippings from their plants. [I usually even pull out close to an ounce in good bud pieces too].

I use that shit to make extractions all the time. In fact, I just smoked some now. It comes in handy in those last week in the month when I run out of pot but before my check gets deposited.

Another good thing to use is the leavings from a vap. I have a friend who uses one a lot - personally I don't care for them much. She gives me all the 'spent' pot. You'd be surprised at how much THC is still in that stuff.

As for making the contraption, it took me all of 25 minutes - 5, if you don't count driving time to the hardware store.
