Publish a Short Story
I have written a short story which may or may not be worth trying to publish, the feedback from it has been anywhere between alright to fucking brilliant, and I have enough of an ego to attempt to have it published. Is there any kind of magazine, competition or websight which I could submit it to without having to pay or having it ripped off?

Re: Publish a Short Story
Get a "Writer's Market" book. A new version is published every year, but as long as you get one that is somewhat recent it should help you out. It will list magazines where you can send articles/stories, their addresses, what they expect, how much they pay, etc.
I also hear google.com is a good place to find answers to questions like this.

Re: Publish a Short Story
While google helps, there is a difference between flipping coins between websights and getting input from people who possibly have done what I want to do

Re: Publish a Short Story
I'm interested in knowing, too.
But to add a little to the content, see if you have a community/school/university paper in which you can publish. I'll probably be trying that once college starts up again.

Re: Publish a Short Story
Any chance you could send a copy my way? delitefuldespot@gmail.com
I will not post it anywhere else. I will simply read and review.
Ask here, they have a whole section on getting published.

Re: Publish a Short Story
There are a few, not a lot but a few, short story markets out there. Just try googling "short story magazine submissions" or "[what ever genre your story is] short story submissions" and a bunch of potential places should pop up. Some of which will pay you good money, others that will just give you a contributor's copy. Good luck.

Re: Publish a Short Story
I for one happen to LOVE the concept of self-publishing. There were a couple of books by Dan Poynter like "Publishing Short-Run Books" that were published by Loompanics Unlimited (RIP). You might even want to check out a book about making a homemade magazine, such as "MAKE A ZINE!" by Bill Brent or "How to Publish a Fanzine" by Mike Gunderloy. It has info in them on how to self publish publications shorter than a book. You can prob find copies on ebay, Amazon, Biblio or bookfinder.

Re: Publish a Short Story
I don't think the piece is worth the hassle of self-publication. If I did decide to put it out there it's going to be because it's easy and costs me nothing, mabe i'll just contribute it to a respectable websight.
Thanks for the feedback anyway
