Your thoughts on the Aboriginal Issue
First of all this is NOT suggesting a holocaust style solution.
Has anyone noticed that more and more Australians are just getting pissed of at the Abos. In the 80s we had a massive "we are evil aggressors" thing but now its starting to reverse. I think this is due to all the efforts the Government is going to too help them. The average Aussie is getting pissed off that all his taxpayer money (roughly 30 000 each last year) for is going to people who spend it on booze and petrol instead of proper accommodation or education. Also the legal system sympathies and allows any abo to get off on a lighter sentence "because of his/her background" this is bullshit because many of these guys are repeat offenders of assualt, theft and vandalism and anyone who brings these facts up is labelled a racist. I reckon the Government should take a hard line and force the abo community to start taking some personally responsibility for its state and stop blaming something that happened 220 years ago.
Does any1 else see this problem (in Australia or other versions of it in your country)

Re: Your thoughts on the Aboriginal Issue
Well, I wouldnt be suprised if it did turn into a holocaust; given the generally "tolerant" nature of Australian society.
Minorities are usually poor or in a bad state because either the government allows it or society forces it. While I think the government should encourage a degree of self-determination they can't throw them to the wolves either. I don't pay attention a whole lot to the situation but some of the provisions I think are justified; like the seperate courts for example.
The Government should try and rectify some of the damages but the Aborigionals need to accept the situation and adapt to an extent as well.

The North and south American Indians, Celts, Israelites and other aboriginees have always been hunted to extinction. If you cannot live in civilization of the dominant group: you will die.

Re: Your thoughts on the Aboriginal Issue
The only group of people here that are almost universally disliked up here are the natives, mostly for the same reasons as the Australians are annoyed with the abos. I think that if people really want integration, you can't have government treating them as different and giving them handouts; because if you do, the others will resent them.

Re: Your thoughts on the Aboriginal Issue
I don't think Kevin Rudd should have appologised, because the current generation of Aboriginals do not deserve it. They want equal rights and shit so the government gives them the right to access medicare, centre link, housing commition etc and they wanted an appology?. I can garentee if you walked into Redfern or other densely Aboriginal populated areas and asked them what the stolen generation was, more than half wouldn't be able to tell you. John Howard done the right thing, he acknowledge that there was a wrong doing in the past but did not appologise to the current generation.
I'm sure if it were up to the Aboriginals to decide whether they wanted to have Australia as it was a long time ago, uncivilised, no health care etc OR what it is today, they would pick what it is today so I think they should just take the appology, build a bridge and move on.

Re: Your thoughts on the Aboriginal Issue
I've known a few who's gotten their head and their ass wired together (they are currently successful business owners not receiving any benefits from the .gov).
I think it's time the government cut the umbilical cord. The free money and houses (which normally get ripped up and turned into fire) has got to stop, it's a waste. It is reasonable to expect a good return on your investment, and the government sure isn't getting that.
How can you have sympathy for a special interest group that receives so many breaks?

Apparently he intends to initiate an 'equal right, equal fights' type thing after the apology, meaning they'll get , which if not bullshit (He is a politician after all, and after Howard was in for so long we've become accustomed to shit drooling out of a Prime Ministers mouth), is something I'm all for. If shit really is going to be straightened out to a truer equality, including Aboriginals recieving the same judicial treatment you or I would, I will be satisfied enough to feel my vote was worth something.

Excellent standard of living, low crime rates, superb wages, great opportunity to 'make it' regardless of socio-economic status and demographic, easy-going culture, beautiful beaches, low pollution, hot woman, freedom, a stable modern democratic political system, a tertiary system that (really) anyone can study at, happy people, smiles.
The small things we bitch about are completely insignificant compared to other nations problems.
It's fucking great here.
My personal gripe is the weather. The summer is too long and hot to my liking. Most people love it though. And I suppose it's not too bad, especially once the hot pants come out...

Re: Your thoughts on the Aboriginal Issue
I think alot of people overate them alot, it's basically 1000 or so abos located in Purfleet, Redfern or those desert camps that attracted all the negative attentions and airtime....
But yea, our management strategies (like all government strategies) is a blackhole of taxpayers money

Re: Your thoughts on the Aboriginal Issue

Australia has it incredibly good, 3rd highest living standard in the world behind Iceland and someone else (?). Were number one for a while before the previous PM (John Howard) messed with the health care system. In short we have nothing major to complain about so little things are blown way out of proportion. Australia is one of few countries where if you are a bum it is because you didn't try. the government has a lot of incentives to join into programs where you can learn a trade and the most they ask for in return is that you stay in the practice for at least for years.
I am in a bit of a situation right now, I am failing grade 12, have next to no work experience and the government has stepped in. For the next 10 weeks I will be doing training and on site work for jobs I said I am interested in for 2 weeks at a time. I said I had no direction, and very few at my age do. So they are helping me find one.
If I don't have the marks for what I want to do, it's ok. The government requires that most businesses have an aptitude test and it's not that I'm an idiot, I just never tried.
I'm rambling, everyone under 18 in Australia can do this and if you are older you have even more options. The Aboriginals get this plus a lot more.
There is a town near mine that is completely built with tax payers money and 10 year ago it was a very nice place to go, before the natives moved in, these aren't cheap houses, although they are all the same they are all very large 4 bed room houses but now there isn't a house there that doesn't have the holes in the walls kicked out, shit drawn on the walls and other crap.
Australians have it fucking great and there aren't many real problems so little things are blown way out of proportion so the news has something to report.
Back on topic, I think a lot, not all but a lot could be solved if they were given food stamps instead of hard cash and they were given better access to aforementioned programs.

Re: Your thoughts on the Aboriginal Issue
My main issue is the reverse discrimination. There were jobs advertised here for teachers aids. My mother applied, met all advertised criteria, and told she had it until they asked what clan she was from. Next week it was advertised with lower requirements.
They don't need as high a UAI for courses that I'm pretty sure contain the same work for white people, pass with a lower mark and don't even have to pay for it. We're given the uneducated degrees to try and level the scales? How about make them work and study.

Re: Your thoughts on the Aboriginal Issue
Is this a hot-button issue used in politics?
Seems to me, if you all have it so good, why give a fuck? Do you all have it so good now, you are just nitpicking? A kind of "we have healthcare, low crime, great economy, wonderful oppurtunities".......damn we have nothing really important to bitch about now, let's blow something out of proportion.
These are honest questions, and not accusations. I really don't know what it is like to live there.

We do have all of that, but we pay for it. We pay slightly higher so the abo's don't.

Re: Your thoughts on the Aboriginal Issue
My solution would to treat them like anyone else. So basically white trash that is dirty :p It's labelled as racist to discipline them simply because of their skin colour but on the other hand because they are coloured they get benefits non-blacks don't get.
I'll never understand the logic behind this.

It's a semi popular issue, but I think it's really one that shouldn't have too much time spent on it. A lot of schools tend to guilt trip the younger people into feeling bad for those sorry ass 'people'.
As a result lots of people think that throwing money at them will help or that the aboriginals deserve special treatment. This obviously isn't true, but in nearly any country if the opinion is held by a large number it will become law. People who interact with the aboriginals on a regular basis either care about them or despise them. Nearly everyone else has no clue about the whole deal.
For example, a city dweller living in middle/upper class areas will usually have no dealings with the aboriginals and as a result their opinions are less valuable than those who either work with them, or live near more of them. An example of this would be people from more regional areas. They have more 'hands on' experience with the aboriginals than most urbanites.
