Little help for school :D
So ive got this damn summer school class and for my final paper its requiring me to either interview an expert on my topic, or survey 25 people. Only thing is its due Monday, so I decided to survey 25 totse ppl
Survey
A/S/L?
Do you know how nuclear power works?
Y N
If yes briefly explain...
Do you fear there could by another Chernobyl incident?
Y N
If yes, how afraid are you on a scale of 1-10(highest)....
When if comes to the environment which do you think is better coal power or nuclear power?
Coal Nuclear
The fuel for nuclear power is uranium. Do you think it is an abundant resource?
Y N
Do you believe that the world needs a radical change in order to solve our climate crisis?
Would you be willing to pay more for a car knowing that it does not run on oil, gas, or another fossil fuel?
NO 5,000 more 10,000more What ever it takes!
Briefly, whats your option on wind and solar energy as an alternative?
Thanks!

Yes. And no, I'm not going to justify my answer for you.
I don't fear, but there is a possibity.
Nuclear is much much better.
Yes.
lolwut?
Possibly.
Good idea but improvments necessary for widespread use.

They are viable energy crisis solutions, but prices need to fall on those systmes for them to become more practical. See the programs that Germany implimented.

I know nothing about Uranium, so I couldn't possibly comment.

I believe the Earths days were numbered to start with, and sacrificing a more comfortable life to prolong the inevitable is just futile, wishful thinking.

Yes
Neutrons bombarded into heavy molecule, releasing energy and more neutrons, creating a chain reaction. energy is used to drive a turbine, making electricity.
No i dont fear a chernobyl incident
nuclear >>coal
Yes, theres lots of uranium to go around
yes radical change is required, reduction in burning carbon based material is essential
10000 ,more is fine, as long as it performs as well as a petrol based car
wind and solar should be used on individual homes rather than built specificaly as a power station. This should be coupled with nuclear, hydro and other sources of power. this is because of the unpredicability of the weather. research should be done to reduce costs and make it more available.

Neutrons are shot at Uranium atoms. The absorbsion of the extra neutron makes the Uranium atom unstable, so it decays, releasing it's neutrons. These neutrons then collide with other Uranium atoms, causing a chain reaction. The power comes from the heat produced by nuclear fission the atoms undergo whilst decaying.

Yes, although whether or not we are able to produce enough power through these methods is debateable.

I think it's too late to solve anything, but a radical change would possibly help. Let's all go back to horse and cart and reading by candlelight!

Re: Little help for school :D
Hello Squinty,
I would love to help you with your school work. If you need any help, I'm available most of the day and some of my credentials are located in the About Me section of my forum profile if you are interested in an in-depth interview with a science professional.
A/S/L?
I am 83 years old, male, and I am currently in the state of Louisiana.
Do you know how nuclear power works?
Yes.
Explanation:
Assuming you are referring to nuclear power plants, it really depends on the methods and type of reactor. For instance, there are high pressure water reactors with neutron monitors and steam cycling and then there are those reactors that use deuterium oxide cooling methods. Independent of the nuclear technology, the concept of harnessing electricity from nuclear technology is the same. Through fission, Uranium-235 is often used with neutron bombardment in a controlled environment to produce Krypton-92, Barium-141, 3 neutrons (on a per atom basis) and a vast amount energy in the form of EMR to heat. The heat energy is then converted to electricity through the use of steam (or other fluid) which rotates turbines. Other less developed nuclear power producing technologies include the use of fission and other forms of radioactive decay.
Do you fear there could by another Chernobyl incident?
Yes and no.
If yes, how afraid are you on a scale of 1-10(highest)....
Yes, because there is always the possibility of another nuclear disaster; however, it is extremely unlikely. On your scale, I would give an estimation of approximately 2.
When if comes to the environment which do you think is better coal power or nuclear power?
Nuclear, because it is much more efficient, clean, and more advanced than the alternative.
The fuel for nuclear power is uranium. Do you think it is an abundant resource?
It is abundant in terms of percent composition of the earth compared to other elements, it is rare in large quantities because it is difficult to isolate, obtain, and produce large quantities on a world wide nuclear power plant network scale.
Do you believe that the world needs a radical change in order to solve our climate crisis?
Yes, although it is not really a crisis. The change would be about as radical as the development of our civilization since the early 19th century.
Would you be willing to pay more for a car knowing that it does not run on oil, gas, or another fossil fuel?
It really depends on a number of factors involved, including the price of those fuels. For the environment's sake, I would not. For performance, function, and efficiency, I most certainly would.
Briefly, whats your option on wind and solar energy as an alternative?
Solar energy production on a global scale is the best long term alternative source of energy available. Although for the sake of civilization development to the outer regions of space, improvements in EMR powered technologies is destined to be improved.

Actually I should kinda change this to a Y. I was supposed to work in a uranium mine before the swamp monster closed it down. I think the mine has got a shitload of uranium.
