Default Looking for a new motherboard

I'm slowly starting to build a computer, and I'm on to looking for a good motherboard.

I've been looking at this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128336

And it seems perfect, has spot for one IDE cable so I can use my current hard drives, 6 SATA connectors so I can upgrade hardrives, and 2 PCIE 2.0 x16.

Anybody here recommend anything else/is there anything I should look out for?

Reviews of that board look great, so I'd say go for it. 2nd highest rated x48 motherboard on newegg (next highest is $60 more)

Edit: Holy fuck it has 8usb + 1 mini usb all on the rear panel!?!?!?

Heh, yeah, thought that was a little overkill.

It appears to have exactly what I want though, and it actually works

For a processor, I was thinking Wolfdale

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037

Considering my 'Gaming' machine is a single core 3.06 GHz, running a ddr 256 AGP videocard, and the one I'm using in my room to post this is a PIII 500MHz, this should be somewhat of an upgrade

Naww get a Q9300.

In benchmarks the wolfdale will beat it in games. However those benchmark machines are base systems with nothing installed on them. I like my Q6600 cause it performs great and I can have all the shit I want running in the background with no problems.

Quads for the win.

Ah, really?

I'd heard that there wasn't much of a difference, and heard about them not being 'true quads' or something.

But eh, those were...what...4 or 5 reviews out of all the ones I read on newegg for it?

And from what I hear yours works fine...

The not being a "true quad" deal, just means that the chip is simply two dual core dies, instead a a single quad core die. It's really no big deal.

I also use a q6600, and I do suggest going quad. Games are starting to take advantage of quads, and I think my quad core will last me longer than a dual core.

As for that board, do you plan to go crossfire? Are you going to over clock? If no to both of those, you could save a lot of money by buying a cheaper board. However, if you don't mind spending that much, go right ahead; it's a good board.

Ah, alright then

And yes, I plan to overclock whatever I end up getting and eventually crossfire

if you go quad get the q9's over the q6's

only game currently out that likes a quad (over a dual) is supreme commander

you might want to consider buying a dual now, then a quad in a few years time (the price will have dropped through the floor due to nehalm being in the market for a year or so

Mass Effect likes quad. Clear Sky's will probably run better on a quad.

Quads are the same price as duals right now, so why buy spend money on a dual, and then spend more later on a quad you could have gotten for about the same price?
