Eyesight and Hallucinations
Hypothetically if a blind man took a number of drugs that induced visuals, would they hallucinate?
Different drugs produce different types of hallucinations through different methods, obviously. Visuals experienced in a h-hole are completely different from those when on LSD.
I'm having trouble thinking of anything else to add to this thread, so I'll throw out some random ideas for discussion.
What would happen if someone who had recently lost their eyesight was administered with a hallucinagine?
What about someone who was born blind? Really intense trips cause you to be completly removed from the real world, what would someone who has never visually experianced life "see"?
If any of you have anything to add to this half baked OP, feel free to do so.
I've noticed that any hallucinations I have, open eye, or closed eye, they always come in completely perfect. It seems like my normal vision is completely perfect too, even if I'm not wearing any contacts. My brain sort of ignores the blurriness, any anything it adds to the picture is crystal clear.

Re: Eyesight and Hallucinations
As I understand, the chemicals don't act on the eyes, they act on the brain, thus causing the hallucinations..
I think the blind person would hallucinate. I'll do some research on it.

Re: Eyesight and Hallucinations
It would be interesting to know what someone who had never seen anything would visualize. Where in their brain would the images come from, if the memories didnt exist? Would they come at all?

Re: Eyesight and Hallucinations
A person who has never seen anything in there life can not be able to hallucinate images except things they have thought up like things they thing they have held. But if they went blind at 10 or sumthing they could image colors and shapes maybe not a certain thing depending on what age they are taking a drug.

Re: Eyesight and Hallucinations
I bet it would be the most intense trip ever. A person who was born blind has never seen the earth, so when he takes the drug he is going to be in a spiritual place in his brain, not a physical place on earth he has been to before. He will be literally in another dimension, because the hallucinations take place inside him, and not outside him.
Also, when you go blind your other senses become more enhanced.

Re: Eyesight and Hallucinations
Of course they would hallucinate.
If they didn't, what do you suppose the drug would do to them?
I realize that those who have not seen anything in their life do not know what it's like, but I imagine what they'd see would be similar (probably way more intense) to closed eye visuals.
Meditation + acid = win. I imagine being blind would make it a bit easier to meditate.

Re: Eyesight and Hallucinations
When I experiance closed eye visuals, they are mostly of space, me floating through space and watching stars/planets be born, or me flying across the surface of a planet across fields and mountains. I have seen pictures of space/starts/planets/mountains/fields, and my hallucinations manifest themselves as physical objects i've seen.
Would someone whos been blind forever see colors for the first time? If so how if their brain doesnt have any memory of such a thing?
On a side note, do blind people see things when they are in REM sleep?

Re: Eyesight and Hallucinations
Blind people usually don't see anything when they dream. They dream in sounds, scents, textures...
Trips are the same. Blind people report auditory hallucinations. Fantastic smells. Tactile sensations. I suppose it might be possible for the drug to create activity in the visual cortex, but their brains simply aren't wired to deal with that. I'd guess that they simply filter it out as noise.
This applies to those blind from birth, obviously. Those who lose their sight beyond very young childhood still perceive images in their heads, although it often fades as the years pass.

I'm pretty sure this would be what would happen, with maybe the equivalent of some CEVs if they did have vision at some point.

Re: Eyesight and Hallucinations
I recall reading somewhere that blind people can see some fractal CEVs on hallucinogens.
Remember, a lot of the hallucinations you see are actually the structures of your eye getting reversed. I'd explain it better but I am pretty drunk and tired right now.

even more crazy.. imagine being blind for your entire life never seeing ANYTHING. how could someone possibly describe to you what 'seeing' is, would you even be able to picture things in your head?

I'd imagine it would be amazing.
We take for granted a lot of things, and their beauty. After an lsd trip the world always seems brighter, more colorful, happier and meaningfull, but its all in my head. The Only thing that changed is that I started taking the time to notice it. Even after months of being sober, if you take the time to look at the world it really is as beautiful as when the drug is in your system.
I can only imagine what someone who was never able to see would feel.

Re: Eyesight and Hallucinations
I don't know about blind people, but my roommate and I are waiting to finish up an experiment with LSD. HE just recently got Lasik surgery to fix his eyesight (not sure of the exact problem he had, but he couldn't see for shit). We've got half of it done so far. The weird thing is that before the surgery, with no glasses on, he said that the visuals were blurry. We've still gotta do the after-surgery trip and a control, but it looks pretty interesting so far.

That is pretty interesting. As I said in my OP, whenever I hallucinate they usually come in crystal clear, unless they arent coming fully. Although, my vision really isnt that bad, just a little blurry without contacts.

His was apparently REALLY bad. Like if he took off his glasses, he couldn't be alone.
I also forgot to add earlier - blind people would get some visuals. Being blind doesn't mean that you see all black, it means that you can't tell one object from another. It'd be blurry as fuck and probably boring to watch, but I think it'd be there.

When ive been using blind in this thread, I mainly mean completely blind ala eyes got removed, or were completely non functioning since birth.

For someone who may have had their eyes removed, this argument is void. They would have been able to see at some point. As far as somebody whose eyes are completely non-functioning from birth, I've honestly never heard of that happening. From my understanding (and my experience as a child with my mom's blind former friend) people who are considered completely blind can still see something. From the descriptions I've gotten, it seems to be like looking out of an extremely foggy window. Objects are still there, but there's no way to tell one from another.

Re: Eyesight and Hallucinations
you dont see with your eyes you see with your brain. not literally but your eyes are like security cameras, they only record information and its up to the guy watching the feed to interpret the data.
