The Dark Knight - Midnight Opening
I went and saw it last night, Thursday, and I give it 9 stars out of 10.
Heath Ledgers performance was great, not enough to win and Oscar, but still great.
Don't wait through the credits, there is nothing at the end.
Oh, and they were showing brand new trailers, including Watchmen and the new Bond flick.

Shit, name me another actor who had a role that drove him to suicide? Heath Ledger probably won't get an Oscar for this, but his work here shows the type of commitment an actor SHOULD have in this day and age. Sucks that we lost a worthy actor, too bad it wasn't some dumb bitch who can't act for shit, just perk up her tits.

I don't think the role drove Heath to suicide...wasn't his death ruled an accidental OD?
I haven't seen the movie yet, hopefully today or the next day. I've read what Heath put in for the role, can it really be picked up so much through the movie alone not taking prior knowledge into account??
Thanks for the tip not to sit through the credits expecting any extra footage.

Re: The Dark Knight - Midnight Opening
They call it accidental, but looking at the pills he took, it seems extremely unlikely that he would OD on the amount that they published.
I think that they are really covering up and actual drug OD...

Re: The Dark Knight - Midnight Opening
I just got back from it. It was a great movie, but definitely flawed. Heath Ledger/The Joker without a doubt carried the movie. He definitely deserves an Oscar. I've never seen someone get so lost in a role like that...and not to mention the character's fucking intensity. He didn't just steal his scenes; he stole the whole fucking movie. Who the fuck is Jack Nicholson?
Anyways, the problems that hold it back from being a masterpiece:
-Batman himself seems a bit too silly this time around. If I remember correctly, in Begins he was menacing, cool, and real. In this one, the cool-factor seemed to be gone. That's to say, he looked like a guy running around in a bat suit. This goofiness actually seemed most apparent in Batman's first scene in the movie. Also: I thought the voice-modulated growl was a bit overdone, to the point of being distracting.
-Poor ending. It has the right elements, but the pacing of it just didn't work well. You have a big confrontation with the Joker, and then another confrontation elsewhere. Although the second confrontation is vital to the plot, I can't help but feel they could have condensed it into a single climax. Plus, the film doesn't really end well with respect to the Joker. Given that he's so central to the film and Batman himself, you'd think he would have been involved in the film's final shots somehow.
-In the middle of the movie there's fairly significant plot-point that doesn't really make any sense. At all.
-Lastly, I was a little disappointed with how Two-Face came to be. I think acid would have been a little more believable, and it would have given him a more unique look. The generic CGI effects were also quite lame; he could have benefited from good old fashioned physical special effects. I do think his story tied into the overall plotline very well...they left his fate unclear, but I hope his character dies off, as opposed to just becoming the next big villain.
Like I said, great movie, but those flaws kept it from being as great as I wanted it to be. It was an homage to Michael Mann's Heat, though it didn't quite hit the mark. I walked out of the theater very pleased, but I didn't have that all-around satisfied feel that I had with Heat, or even Collateral.

Re: The Dark Knight - Midnight Opening
The movie was pretty damn intense. There isn't a moment where you can just sit back, relax and watch the plot develop.
Every second something crazy is going on.
As for Heath Ledger---yeah, his performance apparently wasn't worthy of a winning oscar, but it was still pretty good. I can see how playing such a role would be psychologically taxing for someone.
I think Heath Ledger's death looming on the back of everyone's minds is what kept the audience in a perpetual state of tension throughout the flick.
Oh! And at the premier, I saw a dude dressed as Spiderman from head to foot. Crazy bastard

Re: The Dark Knight - Midnight Opening
For those of you saying it wasn't Oscar-worthy: Why the hell not?
Was Daniel Day-Lewis playing a crazy oil-man more convincing, intense, and absorbing than Ledger's performance?

Re: The Dark Knight - Midnight Opening
I don't know, man. I said "apparently" because that's what's been going around in accordance with yahoo, msn and what other internet media-news coverage.
I thought he did a pretty damned good job bringing to life a two-dimensional character written out by some other dude. It was an intense role, and he did a sick job, I agree.
His death does cheapen the oscar-nominee/winner thing, though, seeing as how it might be thrown at him because he died.

Re: The Dark Knight - Midnight Opening
Heath Ledger went into this movie with his absolute A game. Oscar worthy or not, I think he went beyond the call of duty for his role and for that, we should all be stoked.

Yeah. Man...it's fucked up though. I can't imagine the next Batman movie possibly being better than this. I mean, how the fuck could they possibly top this villain?
