Walked out from my job on the 3rd day...
To all those that suggested I get a job: wait for it... wait for it... fuck you. That's right.
A bit of background: I got a job with this landscaping company. Mainly for experience in the field, but also to earn some cash. Monday and yesterday I was at some big house on a golf estate, then today I was at another, even huger house in our most expensive neighbourhood. The type of place you see on those lifestyle shows. $3m easy.
Shovelling and wheelbarrowing sand from A to B, carrying heavy blocks, loading 40kg sandbags into the back of a truck and an assortment of other pleasures. All in the hot sun from 8 till 5. And on top of that, most of the other workers don't even speak english... Total bullshit. So today after carting my 187th wheelbarrow of fertilizer from the driveway, up the hill to the pool area I just said 'fuck this'. I got my stuff and walked off. As I was a few houses down the guy I was working with told me to come back and told me I 'can't leave because I have to speak to the foreman first'. He wouldn't let me go either (wtf I'm a free man). I told him I was wasting my time there and refused to carry on digging. He called the project manager guy and explained the situation and got back to me, basically saying: stuff off. As I left again, he asked me for my overalls and boots back. Nice... I'm supposed to walk home 20km's in my undewear and no shoes? Fuck that, I told him I'd bring them in on Monday.
In all fairness though, I never *asked* to be paid for this. I joined to get experience, NOT to be a common labourer. I'll probabaly call the main guy later just to explain so it doesn't end all bitter.
I've learned at least one thing though - some people were born to work hard and others were born to live it up off the former's work. Whenever someone complains that criminals should stop stealing and get a *real* job, the jokes on them. Criminals win.

In all honestly, you're just a puss that can't handle a little bit of manual labor and don't feel like putting in the work to learn a few things. You have to work your way up. And you don't do that by sitting on your ass. Guess, you are destined to work at a McDonald's the rest of your life and mooch of your parents?

That sucks dude. They tried to slave me at my last job. I didn't need that so I found a part time and I'm going to school.

Just because somebody doesn't want to do physical labor doesn't mean they are destined for fast food. Office jobs, for instance, allow you to sit on your ass and make a living, as long as you have half a brain.

True... but then again. Nobody wants to sit there and 'be bored at a desk'. Guess it's a lose lose for everyone then?

Re: Walked out from my job on the 3rd day...
I guess that's true. I don't blame the team though. They just do what they're told, and God knows, their lives are crap enough. That said, the only decent one was the security guard. He was cool. Who the hell has their own 'security centre' at their house and 24 hour guard though? Oh well.
But the idea that physical labour makes you 'a man' and 'a better person' is just total bullshit designed to keep the ignorant masses in check. In life you're either one of two things: either you're *somebody*, or you're nobody.
Physical labourer = nobody.

Hey, asshat. I have been. I use to unload 250 pound cooking grills off of 52" trailers for Home Depot. I know what it's like to work my ass off. And I use to do 2-3 trucks a night, and plastic wrap them on pallets. I think that's a little harder then pushing a wheel barrel up a hill over and over again. Might I add, that each trailer contained 100+ grills!

Re: Walked out from my job on the 3rd day...
Don't feel bad. I've quit heaps of jobs on the first week, even on the first day sometimes. When the bosses try to guilt you into thinking that you wasted their time, I tell them to get fucked. I'm working for you, you're not doing me a favor by letting me work for you. If the job sucks for the first few days, then it's liable to suck for the next few years. May as well get out as soon as you've decided you don't like the job.
Physical work can be very rewarding, but not if it's just labouring. That's why bricklayers take pride in their work, but their laborours don't. It's not easy to build a house, and it takes plenty of skill and knowledge to get it right.

If you work freelance, you're 'unemployed'. If you have your own business, you're 'unemployed'. Don't give me that shit. Working-class sheep, 'cog-in-the-machine' mentality.

It's *something*. It's not about being a 'better' person. It's about money. I'll handle that, don't you be concerned about that... Just don't pretend to know anything about me or my life.
You're the one who thinks because you can handle a day of hard labour that you're some kind of hero. You're not. Just like convicts in prison think they're 'the man' because they rape and maul unchallenged. They're not. They're an animal in a cage. Physical labour is just not for me. Especially in the heat (this is by far the main issue). I can't handle it, just like many other people couldn't. No shame in that.

I never said anything like that.
You were the one suggesting that people who worked physical labour jobs were nobody and that you were better than them, while you had no reason to say you were a somebody.

Manual labor is way better than a boring office job. Trust me. Nothing is worse than sitting around being bored. Manual labor is the shit - you really feel like you've accomplished something at the end of the day. Also you get stronger everyday on top of being paid.

I work for UPS in trailers that reach 120+ degrees daily and I don't bitch about it at all. I unload about 12 trailers/day and I am damn good at it. I take a lot of pride in being a small piece that helps keep the world going.
Get a fucking job, or at least do something with your life. Stop mooching off your family and get out and do something.
You're not in school, you're unemployed, you're a fucking failure.

In other words, you take pride in being a cog the machine of life that no one gives a shit about. The world pisses on you and you just keep drinking. Congratulations.
Of course I plan to get out and do *something*. I just want my work to be something varied and dymanic. Something that the success or faliure thereof depends on my own brain and ability.

Being a Senior Network Administrator: All I have to do is run a few daily checks in the morning, I might have 1 or 2 calls from other departments that they can't connect to the net. The idiots don't realize what other users home directories are and to not go to porn/game/warez/internet banking sites.... But I can.
Apart from going around putting out the odd fire, they pay me to sit on my ass waiting for something to go wrong. To kill that time, lately I've been playing Crysis on my new laptop and the first classic halo online. Blood Glutch ftw.

it doesnt make you a man, but one thing it does do is build work ethic.
if you can handle that shit ass job then you can handle just about everything. And clearly you cant, you proved this by quitting. Especially still on the job, who does that?? cant even finish the task at hand.

My constructive criticism:
Look man, you're being overly defensive. You're making post after post rationalizing your failure. In my opinion the fact that you couldn't handle the job bruised your ego quite a bit, so now you're appealing to your "intellect" to compensate, but deep down you know you have no guarantee. Everyone is cut out for manual labor, all it requires is being in shape and having a work ethic. You're spoiled, and you demand that shit be easy. While desk/office work isn't as physically demanding as manual labor, it can be mentally demanding, and you don't start out making big bucks either. You will be entry level, maybe even a free intern. Making 9 bucks an hour while your piece-of-shit manager makes 50k a year, and you'll be overworked and have to kiss his ass before you move up. You're delusional if you think you have a chance of just starting off as CEO or something thanks to your "intellect". What you should take from this experience is that you should definitely improve your work ethic. I suggest joining a gym and getting in shape, just to improve your energy and morale and work ethic.
Oh, and this thread should be referenced every single time somebody wants to wonder why millions of mexicans are getting jobs every year.

I used to do that type of shit all the time. I still do, but not as often 'cause I have another job. You should've stuck with it longer than 3 days, 'cause once you're used to that type of work it's somewhat enjoyable and good exercise.
