Default A rare find!

Today I was out getting a tan and i came across 2 boxes sitting beside this doctors office parking lot. No ones around, so I investigate. In side the 2 boxes was 24 empty wine bottles for a total of 48 bottles. Was it litter? HELL NO! It was treasure. As a wine maker I'm constantly having to restock my wine bottles because people either drop or keep them. If you're lucky you will find a place that sells them for about $1.00 per bottle. So I just found 48 dollars on the ground basically. Oh and I found a liter bottle of sky vodka next to the boxes, also empty. I forgot how much I enjoyed dumpster diving. Time to bust out the deep pockets.

Nice find!

Outside specialty stores is a great place to find stuff. I've found fishtanks with tiny cracks or leaks that are just thrown out! even if you don't want to fix them up, you can use one of the other 4 sides for a window or something. Dumpster diving is the shit

Always wanted to try the dumpster diving thing...Only thing is, they're right out on the street when people are throwing out loads of shit. And as far as I know it's theft in this country. :/

It's theft in the USA too. Once it hits the street, it's considered city property. Also if you dive in places like Walmart or best buy, they consider it potential income lost. So if you're getting it from them and not paying for it, they view it as theft. Shit places like Lexus Nexus have actual armed guards around their bins because they throw away whole printers, laptops ect ect.

A great place for dumpster diving is a college campus at the end of the school year. It usually doesn't involve actually climbing in to any dumpsters and college kids throw away all kinds of stuff (lots of furniture, occasionally electronics) that they don't feel like bringing home.
Additionally, since the whole campus is littered with people carrying around furniture, no one would think twice about you taking stuff, they just assume it's your stuff that you're taking home.

Thumbs up Re: A rare find!

This thread is saturated with win. My local dump ["recycling center" town calls it] is basically just 6 or so dumpsters that we throw different stuff in. Besides glass, cans, and paper, and then straight trash, there's electronics and metal bins. Metal has anything from old swing sets and rusty bikes to lawnmowers, beds, and grills. I got a working rigid sump pump, like 1/2 hp, out of there that worked fine. Recently it stopped working, but I'm planning on disassembling it and fixing it soon. In front of that bin where people leave stuff others might want I got a white 55 gallon drum made out of heavy duty plastic, which I'm super excited to do something with. I know of 2 incidents where people have gotten decent working guitars at the dump- my friend and someone my dad saw, the latter involving THREE electric guitars. Mighta been shit, but in this town lots of good shit gets thrown away, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were fine. I get monitors all the time from there, mostly crts, but I came across a 15" LCD recently so hopefully I'll get a 17" soon. In the electronics bin you can also get old turntables, many work, nice amps [I have a few kenwood amps that are fucking sweet, with huge old knobs instead of buttons, and I have 3 technics turntables. Also various TVs and speakers, most are fine.

Shit, that got really intense. Anyways, yes, diving rocks.

My buddy scored a 32 inch lcd tv. Someone had threw a remote at it and cracked the front. I've been reading up on that and it looks like the thing is totally screwed.

Or you all could do what I do, and take all the copper you can find to sell as scrap metal for 4-5 bucks a pound

That's actually a big problem with crack heads and general druggies around where I live. They go into newly built houses and strip copper piping and other metals. They even steal aluminum siding off of houses people live in.
