which struggling company is good to invest in?
Now is the time to buy low, so you can sell high later, obviously. Real estate seems like a good place to anchor money right now, but that requires thousands. Stockwise, what's a good company, hit hard by the "recession", whose stocks are low and can be expected to bounce back up? Ford is getting pwned right now by gas prices since they only have 1 small car that's too cheap/low-class for most people, and everything else from mustang to excursion guzzles gas. They're hurting pretty bad. GM and chrysler are too. Would you expect these companies to pick back up? What other companies can you think of that are in the low point of their cycle?

Financial institutions. Look at most banks--2 days ago they went up 35% in one day! I'd buy Zions Bank; they're putting out their quarterly income report on Friday, and I'm 90% certain it will be better than last quarter.

For anyone wondering, www.zecco.com is a good place to start. 10 free trades a month.

Fast money? It's kinda a referral link, and the people in the referral thread would love that site.

I get what you're trying to say, but that thread is for "win a free ipod by doing 20 offers, make $10 in 3 hours by filling out surveys, etc etc." This is the stock market and brokerage site. SERIOUS business(never thought I'd use that phrase seriously)
Then I saw the "vote for the next moderator" thread Guess who wont get picked?

Don't start unless you have enough money to build a well diversified portfolio and be able to take advantage of weaknesses by buying more stock blah blah blah.
No, really, it just isn't worth it unless you have a good amount of money and have done a lot of research, beating the market is hard. Put the money in a Roth IRA if you haven't contributed the yearly maximum already, index funds are good.

I just signed up with zecco, and so far so good.
However, you only get the 10 free trades if your equity is $2500 or more. There is no minimum amount needed for an account though, and it's only $3.50 a trade after the 10 freebies or under $2500.

Re: which struggling company is good to invest in?
I invested a bit in sirius thinking it would shoot up whenever the xm merger is completed, but it still hasn't really done anything. I also have some apple, but they fluctuate so much that it's hard to tell. I'm thinking that the suffering automotive companies, like ford and GM, might be good to invest in because they are currently looking into future technologies to make vehicles that run on different types of energy sources, which may or may not make the companies take off in the future. Just remember to buy low and don't put in more than you're willing to lose, unless it's in a "safe" stock, even though those never truly exist.

Re: which struggling company is good to invest in?
I'd only say that the future doesn't look bright for most car companies. Honda are one of the exceptions because they're experimenting big time on alternative/hybrid fuel systems. Oil prices don't look like they're gonna go down so let that influence your choices to an extent. As someone said financial services are pretty much a dead cert over time, as soon as this recession bs is over the banks will take the world back. Although as has been said before you should really be looking to invest thousands to get a return on stocks and shares, and the average totse user doesn't really fit the description. Stocks and shares are a long term business and people with money to burn thrive at these times because they can pick up big percentages of companies for incredibly small amounts, but, a recession really only stands to make rich people richer and less wealthy people hit the poverty line.

Oil prices will go down in the short term, but up in the long.
I would also say companies like ford are the best to invest in. Ford is to huge to crumble over night and too smart to let that come close to happening anyway. There shares will dip down low when oil gets pricey for good (when the cause is supply, not speculation) and it will be prime time to buy. Then they will simply start selling their european cars here in the US, which are already designed for expensive gas. In turn those share prices will go right back up.

Ford failed hard at marketing in America IMO, but they're nowhere near dying. They should have foreseen this coming. They don't offer any decent small cars, and halted on suv production too little too late. Like you said, however, they can only go up. It's not that they can't make decent small cars, ford's european cars should have made it here years ago, as they look cooler than the american counterparts, are fuel efficient, and would have sold well. Also, they are investing heavily in the worlds largest upcoming market, China.

First rule of investing: be able to spell the company you're going to invest in.
It's Fannie Mae for fuck's sake.

When reading this thread I am instantly reminded of Forrest Gump when he said he invested in a "fruit company" and it turns out to be apple and he turns to a multi-millionaire
