Taxi drivers
Do taxi drivers make a lot of money? I mean they charge a fair bit and the running costs can't be too high. I know the operator licence costs about $300,000.
$3.10 flag fall
$1.85 per kilometre
For a job that needs simple qualifications it looks pretty good. Does anyone know figures for how much they earn?
Also would it be socially rewarding in meeting a large range of people?

Re: Taxi drivers
Meeting people for about 15 minutes and never seeing them again, most of them drunk, the rest snobbish and almost all of them arguing that they're being scammed out of $2 when your busting your ass for not much at all.
You need to pay for taxi plates, and its not cheap.
Fuel goes up, people pull runners, you have slow days, even on busy days you spend more than a quarter of your time waiting for something to happen.
Taxi drivers dont keep the money that goes through their cab, it goes to the company that owns the cab - even if they "own" the cab they probably dont own the plates, and even if they did they're still shelling out to run the taxi call centre and garages.
I wouldnt be a taxi driver, its one of those jobs that wouldnt be terrible but it wouldnt be any fun.
You can make more money doing other shit.

Re: Taxi drivers
I drove a taxi when I was living in Venezuela for a few months.
Unless you're dealing drugs by use of your taxi as well then no.
I'll tell you about dealing with use of the taxi if you want, but it'd have to be posted in BI.
Meeting people, to some degree yes.
In VZ it ain't bad because a lot of tourists and people in general use them, and it's $1 for a full tank of petrol (no bullshit).
Rates are competitive, drive fast.

Re: Taxi drivers
Here in San Antonio, they pay between $60 and $80 a day to rent the cab, regardless of whether or not they actually make any money.
