Just finished it up, truly a great movie. I've never seen a movie that had such a sympathetic villain, I mean there was so many layers to him, for the first bit I almost felt like DiCaprio was the villain. William was so respectful of Amsterdam's father and really didn't started being evil until Amsterdam betrayed him after practically becoming a son to him. After watching this I am convinced that Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the best actors around today.

I saw it when it first came out but rewatched it last night and it reminded me how great of a movie it is.

sympathetic villains? what is next? sympathetic werewolves that only look to the moon for a romantic setting within their minds instead of transforming to eat people?

You are an idiot. The best villains are ones that evoke sympathy. It is the most chilling experience in a movie when you understand and almost feel a connection to the villain. It really makes the movie a much more powerful experience than watching a mindless slasher movie.

Good movies are character driven and a character who is just a purely evil villain is boring and unrealistic.

I hate this film.
