Games People Play Games People Play is where to discuss personal computer, video game console, and arcade hardware and software - be it RPG, Sim, Strategy, Fighting, Action/Platform, or any other category. Although discussion of modern platforms/software will most likely dominate, discussion of classic videogame/computer hardware and software is always enjoyable, and certainly welcome - ESPECIALLY since there are public domain/shareware emulators of nearly every older computer/console available these days. Here's a taste of what awaits you: Nintendo-vs-Sega-vs-Sony, Console-vs-PC-vs-Mac, Hardware spec sheets/information, Industry news and discussion, Software reviews, IRC conference announcements/Reports, Emulators, Emulators, Emulators! ... and much, much more!

If they can create a game with that many people that doesn't become an absolute clusterfuck, more power to them.

However, even if they do manage to make an amazing game that properly utilizes all those people, their downfall will be the fact that a large portion of people who play online games are morons, and with that many people on a server, you're going to get a mountain of morons.

You can manage it in other games. You say, in a typical 24 to 30 player game, 1/3 of the people who join will be retarded. that's only 8 to 10 morons, 4 to 5 per team, and that's in the unlikely event the morons even out. They're going to bring you down, but it will be manageable. But with 256? That's like, fuck, 85 morons running around screwing shit up. 85 morons taking your vehicles, teamkilling, running the wrong way, shooting at the air, doing absolute fuck all and generally bogging the game down. Sounds like hell to me.

I've always wanted to see a game like this, but the only way I could see it working is if it had an intelligent AI commander who put each player into a squad, and directed the squad to an objective. Anyone who didn't work towards completing that objective would be booted by the commander. It would work wonders for keeping the game focused too, it could intelligently direct each team toward certain areas to create certain skirmish points, and it would ensure that people knew where they needed to be, and were always helping the team.

I thought that too. Not everyone will team play. Especially without microphones. They will have to include microphones for this to even remotly work. With a ranking system and enough players though, it think it can be pulled off very well.

If you succeed at team playing then you get moved up into more appropriate teams. If not you stay with the morons in the crappy games. There could be moderators or scouts looking for people who are garbage and people who are actually playing well and working towards the goal. It'll be noted and you'll be placed accordingly.

Thumbs up Re: Mag

Well since it's all based on rank = skill I can imagine it working well.

The best are with the best, and the bellends are with the bellends.

I can imagine if you're a cunt you're sent to MAG's version of 'Bad Company'.

For anyone that hasn't seen it yet:

This has been said over on the official EU PS forums

Motorstorm will now be renamed to 'Drive vehicles through dirt and trees'.

Extra sales there

Maybe on XBOX Live....

But i highly doubt this is going to be it's biggest downfall.

You need to be honest to yourself, XBL is famous for having little bitching kids online, of course PSN has kids but it's sure as hell not as bad as XBL.

That might just be down to the lack of mics. Almost all of the people i've heard on COD4 i've had to mute. Either due to some tinny ringtone in the background, babies screaming or general chatter. Sometimes its been tactical but most of the time everyone gets put on mute.

I like the idea of MAG's very own 'Bad Company' sort of reject pile. Someone should let the developers know so they can slip it in, if they already havn't. Ha.
