So the number 23 caught me
It used to be only 111/11:11 that I compulsively noticed. I saw the movie "The Number 23" a long time ago, and even once I tried noticing it, but it never seemed to show up that much. All of a sudden, after reading a little bit more on it, it's showing up more than the gray hairs on McCain's head.
What's your opinion on this phenomenon? Is it just selection bias?

It's my guess that you see a shit loada numbers during the day, but since seeing the movie your subconscious mind notices this number more, which then draws your conscious mind to take notice.

We create our own reality. If you so choose, it IS selection bias.
I subscribe to RAW's idea, that 23 is the number of the Illuminati.

The movie didn't invent the 23 phenomenon (or 23 enigma as it is sometimes known), it was based on the phenomenon that has been known for a while. And I saw that movie well over a year ago, so it wasn't the movie. If anything, it was the books I have been reading that are well older than that movie.

Re: So the number 23 caught me
In my opinion its just a human mind flaw. Your mind is trained to recognize certain this, thinking back to primitive days when you were hunting fuckin crazy mammoths and shit. You are trained to recognize certain things. Say one time you notice a flaw very small on a mammoths toe, and you find that it helps you take down the beast easier. Then in your hunting you start to see that flaw on other animals. Well now we don't have fucking mammoths that we need to survive. When you get down to it, we have money, which is just numbers, and time, so maybe for some reason your mind you pulled one of them and your mind is like, you check it out, theres that important thing. Thats just my opinion, and I've dealt with that issue myself. I am also pretty fuckin high so that might not have come out right.
Since I'm feeling smart today, I'd like to add to this subject that when speaking about matters of the mind, always think back to primeval days. We have a lot of built-in extincts that we don't use anymore, and they aren't just going to sit around chillin and not do anything.

I don't think it came out quite right, but let me try to rephrase what you said. Perhaps for survival our minds naturally look for patterns, and since we've grown to be heavily immersed in symbolism and we have less of a need for fighting for survival we can begin to notice those patterns in symbolic ways in unconventional locations.
Perhaps this is true.

Is it weird that I always notice the number 23 and I have not seen a movie on anything 23 related?

I think I might've been off in my way of the explanation by scenario, but I'm thinking the main point is that we have all these uknown left-over instincts that don't apply to anything modern, so they do all kinds of unexpected things.

No, which is exactly what I was saying. Google "23 enigma," it's been known for a long time longer than that movie. It's what the movie was based on.

Did you feel you had seen a part of a coincidence or message when you seen that movie come out with that number?

Well, because of this thread, you've seen the number 23 way more times in one day than usual.

I see it significantly more times in a day than the number of times it's been typed in this thread.

Re: So the number 23 caught me
This is a simple case of the Rule of 13's. If your conscious mind notices a number a few times, your subconscious continues to look for it.
ex. "I saw the number 13 everywhere. My toaster has a 13 in it's serial number, I live on 01300 Anystreet, I just bought 13 cases of beer."
Basically the Rule of 13's is like self-fulfilling prophecies. You begin to look for something consciously or subconsciously, and you WILL find it.
By the way, my real name has 23 letters in it.

Re: So the number 23 caught me
dude, its nothing, its just that your taking more notice to it now that you have become aware of it.
just like... when you eating m&m's one by one. if you dont realy pay atention you wont notice that you have eaten like 5 or 6 red M&M's in a row, but it you told "the Red M&M's are haunting you" you will notice, if you eat 3+ red ones in a row.
make scence ?
someitmes, i use to hear a new words, some that iv never heard been used befor, but after i heard them, i would hear them soo often for the next few weeks, untill i just started ignoring them agen.
Solution: tell yoruself that another number is hounting you, make it a verry uncommen number, like 983373. trust me it will go away ;)

Re: So the number 23 caught me
I tried pretty hard a while back to notice 23's (a two week study period), and I came to the conclusion that it's BS. I see it no more often than any other number.
It also didn't help its cause that the movie sucked balls.

And its funny since your post was at 23: 58
There's two 23s there... 23, and 58
8-5 = 3
5-3 = 2
See the pattern, I made that connection, not through symbols or whatever, but because my sub-conscious and conscious mind was looking for the number 23. I quite like this.

Re: So the number 23 caught me
I've seen 9:11 alot but thats obviously just random. Theres this little carbon monoxide detector we have in the basement and it has these 3 flashing leds that flash one after the other. Every 1000 or so (I have no clue how many) all 3 light up. When I randomly glance over, more than usually I see all 3 lit up.

Re: So the number 23 caught me
Ok this is fucked up because I remember about a year ago at the casino there was this one old white guy who was placing crazy maximum bets on the roulette table. The only thing was he was only playing one number, 23, I saw him win 2 tables next to eachother, both hitting 23.
