| Games People Play Games People Play is where to discuss personal computer, video game console, and arcade hardware and software - be it RPG, Sim, Strategy, Fighting, Action/Platform, or any other category. Although discussion of modern platforms/software will most likely dominate, discussion of classic videogame/computer hardware and software is always enjoyable, and certainly welcome - ESPECIALLY since there are public domain/shareware emulators of nearly every older computer/console available these days. Here's a taste of what awaits you: Nintendo-vs-Sega-vs-Sony, Console-vs-PC-vs-Mac, Hardware spec sheets/information, Industry news and discussion, Software reviews, IRC conference announcements/Reports, Emulators, Emulators, Emulators! ... and much, much more! |

My PS3 Isn't Working With My TV
If this seems like it would get better responses in T&T, feel free to move it. I was torn, since I figured there are probably more PS3 owners here, but more tech experts in T&T.
Anyways, my TV is a Polaroid TTM-2003. It has 3 sets of those red, white, and yellow inputs, as well as a cable input, and this additional orange input that says co-axial. I've taken pictures of all of that.

Now, I borrowed this PS3 from a friend of mine. He was using the HDMI cord, and I couldn't find a cord with the red, white, and yellow outputs. So, I used one that was lying around. It fits, but it's not a standard Sony one, nor does it work. I tried both video channls on my TV, as well as the DVD channel...no luck.

So...my thought is that either some PS3 setting needs to be changed, or I need a different cord for connecting it to my TV. Any advice?

Re: My PS3 Isn't Working With My TV
The PS3 still thinks it's in HDMI mode. When you switch it on, don't just press the power button. Hold it. It should make a few beeps.
This resets the video settings so that it gives video out in Standard Definition through the Scart leads.
You should get a picture.
Work it from there.

I tried holding the power button down before...didn't work. Does it have to be immediately after I flip the switch?

Re: My PS3 Isn't Working With My TV
It can be anytime, I just tried mine then as long as its in standby (with the red light) you just hold the power button untill it beeps a second time. (The first beep is for power on and the second is when it goes into the video reset).
Do you not have a ps2 cable? The ones you have look pretty ghetto.
Edit: Damn you, I have to set up my sound again!

Well, I had it in standby, then held it down and got a beep...are you saying I should hear an additional beep after that? Something should instantly come on the screen then?
It's at my friend's house now, so I'll try it in a little while. If I did need a new cord, where could I get one (cheaply).

Off a playstation.
Off a playstation 2.
Off a playstation 3.
Come to think of it, don't they come in box with an RCA lead?

exactly what I've come to say.
so while we're talking about PS3 and display; would anyone say an HDMI to DVI cable is worthy? I'm wanting to get it hooked up to my widescreen LCD moniter, which has a DVI port. I've seen the cables for reasonable prices on certain sites, but I'm not sure if these things are makeshift, or what...
