IRA is a very broad term. It can be the IRA that fought the War of Independence, it could be the IRA that fought against the Irish government in the Civil War or the Provos who are the most famous and then numerous militant organizations still semi-active today.
The Provisional IRA did negotiate with the British government, that's why they aren't around anymore(Militarily) and as for the terrorist tactics, terrorist tactics were the best choice considering they're resources and the situation.

I wouldn't say the ELF tries to incite terror. I don't know of any instances where they've tried to take lives, so unless you have a dire fear of an uninhabited construction site or biochem lab being destroyed, they aren't really inciting that much terror out of people fearing for their lives.

Well, if you were doing so to improve the lot of the aliens, I doubt they would call you a terrorist.
My point is that "terrorist" is just a word meaning "A militant who you disagree with". "Not in a regular army" is an optional extension usually used for formal implications.

I wouldn't go that far, by my idea of a classic example of a terrorist organization would likely be more spiritually or ideologically motivated, whereas Fox tends to be more likened to a Zaibatsu, hell, Murdoch used to fuck both Kate Leigh and Tilly Devine in Razorhurst for the cost of 2 Pavlova's until Keith got a warning from the ATO to keep his cunt crazed son away.

I'd say terrorism means using a campaign of violence to scare people into doing something. So ELF =/= terrorists. They damage things, not people (from what I've read about them) and the same is true of the ALF.
IRA are clear winners for being good at it, keeping it up and having a reasonable reason for it. Well, they were killing innocent people so no reason is really good enough, but theirs is better than most.

Not that relevant. The catholics were there first. But someone else who posted was right, it isn't a religious conflict, that's just another way of telling the people apart. If the catholics were black and the protestants were white, the problem would be similar. The religions aren't important.
Ireland and the UK is a bit like tibet and china. Would have probably been much better if the nationalists just got their way, before they got desperate enough to start bombing everything and turned people against them.
