Default Opera verses gnome

I decided to get rid of ubuntu on my desktop (the new update ruined it for me) and had to go through the excitment of reinstalling all my applications in debian.

the problem is that opera looks like shit. The actual application looks as it should, but the menus have that horrible gtk1 look.

it was i had years ago when i first installed opera, but i can't for the life of me figure out how to fix it (googling tells me its a qt vs gtk problem, and ive tried all the random gtk qt engine apps, but nothing works).

all right, new problem. something very odd. trying to set a static ip, easy enough?
"allow-hotplug eth2
iface eth1 inet static
address 192.168.1.15
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.254
auto eth1"

i go to enable it, and i don't get my ip, i get the same one that the DHCP server assigned me. there is no reason i shouldn't get it, there is nothing taking the ip.

i really have no idea why it's not giving me the ip that i want? does debian have something going on that im not seeing?

fixed them. for those playing at home, i fixed opera, but completely forgot how i did it. i was trying out random combinations of packages and something worked.

the networking this was a pain in the arse, there was a stupid gnome network manager (usually sits in the notification area) that was doing something dodgy. i think it was determined to connect with an dhcp ip, when i 'disabled networking' through that i got my static one. i uninstalled gnome-network-manager (where it lived) and its all awesome.

so far, debian >> ubuntu.
