Lightbulb Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

I just finished grilling two cheese sandwiches. One of which had sliced tomatoes cooked in with it. It's the first time I've ever used tomatoes, and it had a unique taste. I'm not even that fond of tomatoes. I used a pan, which I've heard is better than those grilled cheese makers or whatever. Unfortunately I didn't have any ham or turkey, or else I would have used that too.

So totse, what are your favorite grilled cheese recipes and cooking methods? These things are so damn delicious. I need to expand my horizons.

Dude I would've gone with some ham next time. That sounds pretty delicious.

When I'm making one I like to go for the traditional croque monsieur approach. Butter the inside of each slice, spread some dijon mustard on one slice and put a slice of boiled ham on top, spread mayonaise on the other and arrange some gruyere cheese on top of that. Assemble, then dip either end in a medium density batter, with no sugar. Then grill it of fry it or "broil" it or what ever floats your boat.

I usually use tortilla instead of bread, put some jalapenos and manzano chillies, a little of cumin and if I have any, some refried beans.

the quesadilla thread is that way.

i like to use pepper jack cheese. i've only ever dipped grilled cheese in tomato soup once, but it's pretty good. the guy that said pepperoni...that sounds like it'd be all right. maybe throw in some peppers too. green or banana or both.

Well with the materials in my house, I think I'm going to need to pick up a few things from the grocery store. But I plan on making some grilled cheese using some Dijon mayonnaise this time and bits of bacon (I don't really have much in my fridge at the moment) later on.

canned tuna, mayonaise and chilli peppers are good too, but thats more of a tuna melt rather than grilled cheese sandwich
