No 3rd party galleries?
I posted a thread in SG to let people know that I'd changed the config of the gallery to allow anonymous guest browsing, but not of all the albums, so if there were lots of things that appeared to be missing... that's why...
http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=2140979
The thread was closed by deus with the explanation,
"No 3rd party galleries."
I don't believe this is a rule.
deus actually posted what his own extra "rules" were for a thread to not get locked, about 10 minutes from the time mine was locked and of course nothing as absurd as "no 3rd..." was in there.
http://www.totse.com/community/showp...3&postcount=22
I understand there are mods on either side of any gallery debate that starts up... but that's no reason to close a legitimate thread. Especially since it wasn't too long ago that SG had a stickied "3rd party gallery" thread for quite a while.
I don't care too much about this personally, and I don't expect anything to come of it...
Hell, odds are I won't remember this in a few hours...
But it should not have been locked.

Re: No 3rd party galleries?
Believe it. And it's pretty much your own damn fault. We had so many people come to us bitching that you took pics of them off their myspace and other creepy shit. And then would refuse to remove the pics - you know, we've talked enough times. And while you were always pretty cooperative with me, too many others received a hard time from you. So there was much debate and it looks like 3rd party galleries are out.
You have only yourself to blame.
As for Deus giving his list of things for a thread to have and closing yours: We could list all day things that are and are not acceptable, and still not list it all. There will always be some unique thing or something that just doesn't fit into a neat set of rules. How would he know to list threads that link to 3rd party galleries? He wouldn't. Threads get closed for a multitude of reasons and to say that since something was not on this list that it means the thread is good.
That's why I didn't repy in that thread. I knew people would use it to prove I shouldn't have closed this thread or that one...

I was as reasonable with everyone else as I was with you.
Some people are just noisier and bitchier about things than others.
I know I nabbed a few myspace pics from the myspaces of those who posted their myspace links publicly (usually in a picture thread where the only purpose for showing their myspace pictures to totse), but that was when it was just starting and in the momentum of the project hadn't anticipated everyone's reactions, and therefore hadn't established any ground rules for discretion in which pictures were posted. As far as I know, most of those pictures, are no longer displayed there.
I can understand that just because you're too lazy to go grab direct image links, and instead just link to your myspace, that doesn't mean you intend for all future postings to be made public as well... so they aren't.
I thought the gallery was pretty uncontroversial these days for that reason.[/quote]

Not at all. Anyone's free to post things there and they do fairly often. If something's controversial there, anyone's free to contact me and discuss it.
I do have an abnormal amount of messenger services listed for just that reason... I know I've had things uploaded that shouldn't be public, a lot of times they'd be things that I'd taken off myself at an earlier time, so I just take it off again.
I have only been rational about all of this, even when approached with some very emotionally... excited... individuals.

Yes, that was not a legitimate point I was trying to make, I just edited it in when I saw that later and thought it made the whole situation even funnier.
However, not being on the list of made up ad-hoc rules isn't the reason that a thread is good.

Don't really understand where you're going with that, maybe I missed something...
Short Version: - I'm reasonable and very available for discussion.
- I've tried to make the stuff there fairly uncontroversial.
- I'm not the only one who uploads things there, and people frequently upload things that I've already removed along with other new things, so I promptly remove them again when I catch it.
- I'm not a troll and don't believe I've ever posted a thread warranting a lock.
Looks like robinhoody leaving must've swung the court against me...

Naked girls that post their pictures on an internet full of teen computer nerds need no help to "spread" them.
That's the intent and that's what happens.
Anyone who looked young or whose pictures got out when they weren't just posting pictures for attention-whoring shouldn't be there anyway...
I care much less about keeping any controversial pics up that I may have missed, than I do about providing something useful to a forum I grew up with.
Eh, maybe I should get out of here for a while anyway...
Maybe an irc only relationship is in order.
Though when/if I do I won't take the gallery down with me as kai, etc have done... It'll be around as long as there's traffic as far as I'm concerned. Or at least until there's something better to replace it.
Not that I feel important or anything... just wanted to clear that up for the one person who may use it who might have been worried.

Re: No 3rd party galleries?
If I REALLY wanted to, I could have slapped you with a posting personal info infraction.
In fact, in my post of my guidelines, the last one was that the forum rules should also be taken into account, and posting personal info (inc. pics) is disallowed forum-wide.
As it stands, I'll let it drop, but I'm not going to let you continue promoting a gallery where, from personal experience, you repeatedly post pictures that people do not want on there.
Also, Jeff himself has said that galleries and sites not officially endorsed should not be using the Totse name or claim to be connected with Totse.

Of course the rules are taken into account. That's generally the basis by which threads are moderated. However, the rules there are rules for content of posts. They are not rules for the content of all the internet. The gallery is not me posting users' pictures. I simply have a gallery where users can upload their own collections of user pics, and will gladly remove any that become a big fuss. I'm not doing anything infractable.

I don't claim anything. When I started the thing I called it the "&Totse User Gallery" because that's what it was, so it seemed like a good name... however soon after I realized that some might not approve of the use of the name, so I changed it for that reason and also because
I don't see any reason anyone should be able to search there way to the site from somewhere outside of this forum.
I don't claim to be officially connected with this place in any way.
I just tried to provide a service that a lot of users could appreciate.
