Default power supplys

ok i dont know shit about power so somebody please help me on this one

i have a usb keyboard that i just bought. i need to use external power instead of usb power. on the keyboard it says 12v DC. i found an ac converter power supply deal from an old printer. on the ac converter it says output 30v, input 120-127v ac. the plug fits fine into the back of my keyboard controller but i am scared im gonna fuck it up if i turn on the power.

can i do this without blowing 250 dollars out the window?

I don't know shit about power either, but I really don't think using anything with 30v output on a device that requires 12v is ever a good idea. I'm pretty sure you'd just end up with a dead keyboard that smells like hot plastic.

Question Re: power supplys

Yeah, if it says 12v, feed it 12v. I mean... it's logic.

Question Re: power supplys

So you will connect the keyboard to the computer thru a non-powered USB port?

Let us know how that works out for you?

What the hell kind of keyboard is this?

You need to give it a 12v power supply. Also you need to know the amperage. If the keyboard draws more than amps than the powersupply puts out, it'll potentially kill the powersupply over time and the keyboard wont function properly.

It might be listed like this

12v 3A.

Meaning you need a 12 volt powersupply capable of 3 amps.

I thought of that earlier in the thread but dared to question someone on here actually owning it. It uses an external power supply. Probably draws well over 3A. Couldn't find any power specs on it.

EDIT: http://img.artlebedev.ru/blog/optima...m-stickers.jpg

Look very closely at bottom right. it draws 12v 3amps! hah!
