I don't know what the hell is going on. I'm going to try to switch back to xdm for now. Between the time I started it Sunday and when I turned it off this morning I installed a grand total of one thing (XMMS) and did nothing to configurations. I've been using the same kernel and the same graphics drivers that I've been for months and I've had absolutely no problems until now.
Now, when it boots it starts off normally, it displays the splash screen for nVidia and the boot process, but when it goes to take me to the log-in page it goes to a blinking cursor, accesses the HD for a few more seconds and then stops. I can type stuff in and have it displayed like on a command line session, but there is no session. If I ctrl, alt, delete it will start up the restart sequence as normal.
