System Builders OS
Hello gentlemen.
While recently browsing for a Windows OS online, I came across extraordinarily cheap versions called "OEM System Builder".
Is this the full OS? Do you need to purchase additional keys or anything? I don't know much about computers beyond pornography and vidya games.
Perhaps you smart fellers can lend one some knowledge. A brief rundown of "System Builder" versions of Windows OSs. Are they fully capable, full versions, will they receive updates? Thank you in advance.

Re: System Builders OS
System Builder editions are cheap, are the same thing as retail. The only difference is they come with a sticker COA (If I remember right) and you CANNOT get support from MicroShit
Its a great solution to that $220-something upgrade for Vista Ultimate. And who calls microshit for help anyways???

That's not what he was asking. He was asking what System Builder was, his message was not a request for some of your free software propaganda.

Re: System Builders OS
OEM System Builder Operating Systems are sold to the companies or the individuals that build computers and then sell the machines to the people who then sign the End User License Agreements and register the OS. So the original buyer would not be eligible to make use of the Operating System.

I think his message was warez propaganda, actually.
You know, download Windows from various sites like Demonoid and The Pirate Bay...

Ah, didn't think of that, but nonetheless, the point still applies. The OP wanted information about a System Builder
Its like replying to a thread asking whether a Honda has automatic gear support by saying that I should get a Toyota

^ No, it's like posting a thread asking what the difference is between a Honda x model and a Honda y model, and somebody mentioning you can get either for free.

Re: System Builders OS
Thanks for the input guys. However I guess I just cannot grasp the "System Builder" OS concept.

So let's do a hypothetical:
I build a PC with parts from newegg.com. I buy a "System Builder" OS from newegg and install it on the new PC. I sell that PC to John Q. Public. John Q. clicks "Accept" a few times and... he now has a fully functional Windows OS that can connect to Windows Update and get updates, service packs and malicious software removals?
Thanks again.

Re: System Builders OS
Yea it is usually pre installed on the computer by the maker and has a restore partition and will only be legal to use on that one machine that you built.
And then there is the os that comes from MS that is bought by a company that can be used on as many machines as they want to pay for. If they do not load the OS to the total number of machines that they pay for is it legal to bring it home and load iyt to the Owners personal PC or laptop?
Still seems that many people would do a search for warez and find a clean copy for personal use. MS is now starting to go after OEMs that use their pirated OS's. Especially the repeat offenders. But I do not think they are currently targetting the personal user.
