True, but they are only using a fraction of the imported resources. Most goes into stockpiling. They are purchasing Australian, Canadian and Brazilian copper, coal and iron ore while it is cheap. Also they are getting their oil from Africa while we get ours from the Middle East. The West can't get to Nigeria's vast oil reserves because the Chinese control it. Not just in Nigeria, but the rest of Africa except the very North and South, China has a lot of influence.

Most of the public infrastructure such as highways and stadiums is funded by the PRC. This is nothing new either. Ever since the 1970s China saw Africa for its resources. Most of the influencial people in these African countries attended Chinese universities. China needs Africa for its food and oil needs in the future.

America hasn't heard much of it because China doesn't deal with America. The USA doesn't have much stake in Africa, iron ore, copper or coal so it would not be in the news often in America.

Most of Chinas military capabilities are kept secret, and they have about 2.5 million active personnel, compare this to Americas 1.5m. Also most university undergraduates take part in military training and if needed China could amass an army of over 300 million people. At the end of the day, if they really wanted to kick off, we would all be fucked.
