Default Got work as a computer sales man

I got a job at one of those big computer stores. Yeah it's probably th first one that popped up in your head if your in North America. Commissioned based, keeping your job depends how much you can sell in one day.

My actual profession is teaching, however, I'm free during the summer, plus I'm poor, so I applied and got a temporary job at a place where I make less than half as much and deal with way more people.

Any advice from any whose primary profession is in sales?

I suggest doing what the other salesmen do...

Things like
1.) Harassing customers who don't want help
2.) trying to sell people things they don't need
3.) being a complete and total asshole.

Those 3 things are key parts of being in the sales profession.

Best advice I ever heard: If you aren't talking to a customer, you're unemployed.

Something else that I heard: Imagine that every customer that you see has a $50 bill in their pocket that belongs to you. The only way to get it is to sell them a computer.

Lying seriously is a good idea in selling computers. I used to work in a computer store and our best salespeople were those who told outright lies, whatever the customer wants to hear basically. There are no consequences for lying, everyone expects it basically.

Any examples of this 'lying' put into use in sales from totse?

The location of the store I'm at has all these cheap ppl who would no doubt put some research before buying a computer. They're also very conservative with there money.

While I do know computers I dont know if i can make up stuff about them. What should i tell people? They really need 6 gigs of ram and quad for an office pc thats bundled with a mid entry level video processor?

I probably shouldn't talk but from me experience and what others have told one can derive alot more "enjoyment" out of repairs and if you go out on your own (like I did) you can make a (relative) killing in a summer($80- 100 for 2 hours)

However I don't have any sales experience so you might just be happier where you are
