Do you remember what sobriety feels like?
I've been doing drugs for three years. Mostly psychedelics and opiates. I always find some way to get fucked up, and while I don't normally abuse hardcore drugs, I sometimes go farther than I'd expected. But the thing is that over time, all the non-hardcore drugs can really add up. I remember last year I stopped using everything for about 5 months, and it was only after three months that I realized that my mind was normal again.
Does anyone ever feel like they're fucked up when they're not fucked up? I did some acid the other day, and it was eye-opening because the morning after while I was still tripping, I felt my mind was truly clear for the first time in ages.
Only on acid does that happen to me. It's refreshing. How about you guys? Is this a documented thing or is it all in my head? I believe it would be called "burning out."

Being sober is a high for me these days, a high that I rarely allow myself to experiance.

Re: Do you remember what sobriety feels like?
I remember what 'sobriety' feels like, because I've been there several times since the beginning of my drug use.
However, I cannot fully remember what 'pre-drug use' me was like.

Re: Do you remember what sobriety feels like?
What most drug users don't realize is that when they come down, they're still not completely sober. I think that's what makes "sobriety" so annoying , at least at first. You have drugs in your mind/body but not enough. It takes a while to detox.
Until then, let's get high !

Sorry to say, I don't need drugs. My brain is naturally fucked up, I believe. Maybe drugs would make me normal... scary thought.

But it did.

Re: Do you remember what sobriety feels like?
besides for getting drunk 2 times a week and using salvia yesterday, I haven't used any psychoactives aside from nicotine or caffeine since 4/20. Being sober is a state of mind that one should learn to appreciate. I used drugs to cover up my pain previously and I have really straightened my life around since I stopped, mentally anyway (financially, physically, etc, I was great before). I'm not saying drugs make you stupid, because my grades my first semester of college were much better when I was fucked up all the time, but my anxiety has decreased and I feel generally happier. Being stoned all the time creates an imbalance in your brain's chemistry, with both dopamine and seratonin levels, and it is better appreciated getting stoned every once in a while to fully appreciate the excess seratonin and dopamine rather than use all the time just so you have the high levels and not feel depressed...JMO.

Re: Do you remember what sobriety feels like?
Haven't really been "pre-drug sober" since the onset of HPPD, which was like a year ago, so I suppose having mild visuals all the time is my new sober. Apart from that, I only do drugs once every 30ish days, so I'm as close to sober as I could get when I don't have foreign chemicals working in my brain.

Truth.
I don't remember what it was like to not want some sort of drug or think "this would be better if I had (insert drug)"...I wonder what I wanted before that?
I don't really like being sober for long. I don't like being fully aware to certain things (past and present), feeling my ankle injury from running a few years back still killing me, or the muscle under my shoulder blade that seems to have never healed.
Why feel the pain when it's not necessary? The end result of life is death anyway, I just don't see why I should have to go through any unnecessary pain until then. So drugs for me are just a great inexpensive vacation.
Hopefully this makes sense cause surprisingly I'm not in the sober world right now.

Re: Do you remember what sobriety feels like?
People think I'm stoned from the way I smile and the way my face looks when I'm sober. I've lost many jobs because I look like I'm on drugs, when I've been stone cold sober every day on the job. So nowadays I just smoke regularly. That way, I can be relaxed and happy, and people won't treat me any differently. Perfect life. When I'm sober, people still think I'm stoned, but I'm not, so my actions are all awkward and boring. But I'm a much more fun person to be around when I'm high (many sober people have told me this) so I'd rather portray my "normal self" as being stoned, and my "abnormal self" as being sober.
I know very well what it's like to be sober... but it's less useful than being high for me.
