So, a number of people who have taken ridiculously high dose LSD (20+mg) report subjective effects that are different from a lower dose, say 2mg. Theoretically, this shouldn't be the case due to receptor saturation. I know that LSD has a very sloppy binding profile, but I don't know all of the specifics. Theories?

Well, the fact that I can not provide examples is what saddens me. I was looking to further my knowledge on the subject. I mean, even on six hits I have tripped so hard that it is hard to analyze just how hard I am tripping as I can often not even remember I had taken a drug. I am sure though that people who have braved a thumbprint have gotten a far more intense high and a longer one, it just is logical but I wanted to expand my knowledge.

there was this man on shrommery called china cat, he was one of those hippies who followed the grateful dead around... He met these people who were the ones who got the pure crystal lsd, and to be in this "family" you had to do a thumb print dose. sticking your finger in some lsd powder and then putting it in your mouth is probably something like 3-10mg... he has stories about his own trip, and a couple of people he gave this sort of dose to... Its a great read, the guy provided acid to alot of people.. in one of the stories hes telling about how they were in a hotel room laying 50,000 hits and this guy wanted to do a thumbprint, then he freaked the fuck out thinking they poisoned him and he was running around this hotel room naked for a while screaming, then ego death hit and he went catatonic.. having 50,000 hits and pure lsd crystal in the same room as someone going fucking crazy wouldnt be a good thing...

I also read the chinacat posts, interesting stuff indeed. He seems to emphasize "complete ego loss" as a distinction with "breaking through" on a thumbprint. I would imagine that such a large dose would be similar to a ++++ trip, just much more intense. You're basically over the horizon anyway, in a completely different world. Just faster, perhaps.

Well there haven't really been that many recorded human deaths... you can inject all the animals you want but rats, mice, and rabbits will all have substantially different lethal doses... iirc rabbits are very over sensitive to psychedelics and they become toxic at much lower levels than rats and mice...

only 1 confirmed death comes to mind and that was a speed freak who mistook some lsd crystal as speed and injected alot... im going to assume that he had a heart attack given the speed binges and the general shock that would come with injecting a massive amount of lsd unknowingly...

i remember reading about a party where some people mistook some crystal for cocaine so they railed lines of it. no one died, they all ended up in the hospital...

12mg is a pretty high dose. You should be talking in ug - microgram.

Anyway. I've had 10 hits of 200ug and I've had 65 hits in one night. And the difference is not much - except for length of trip. You can only blaze so hard.

the one man i was talking about who died seemed to have injected around 320mg.... in monkeys the ld50 is 5mg/kg... which is pretty low compared to mice, rats, and rabbits... i would expect we would react similarly to monkeys. as i weigh about 70kg, 350mg might do me in...

I'm w/ meta on this one. After a point, it's just longer trippin. You can have a great time getting to that point, however. Also, I think it loses some of the magic over time(if you use it alot.) I tripped for about a month (not tripping the whole time, but dosing about 3 times a day(high doses)) and after that I never had as much fun on it. Just an opinion, however.

I took the first dose - 15 hits - in the early evening on a Friday. I then took another row of 10 hits about every 45 minutes. I came down mid evening Sunday.
