Default Anyone know anyone who turned crazy from LSD?

So far, I've done it thrice, and had great trips every time. My friend and weed dealer warns me that I'm slowly changing, and that there is a great possibility that I might lose my mind if I continue doing it weekly. Personally, I like the way that I'm adjusting to a more liberal mindset, thanks to the chemical.

I don't know, honestly. I felt stronger than the drug each time and was able to control my behaviour and feelings. You guys know someone who "lost it" on acid?

Yeah, this black dude i know took half a "sunshine" tab and was fucked for months, talking slow, staring at shit all the time, but that might have something to do with the fact that they went to a graveyard while tripping..

All you need is a strong mind and a good life, someone takes acid and is also addicted to something will realize this and spiral downwards. Ive had a really bad trip on shrooms but i was fine like a week after, as long as you have a good life and a strong mind nothing can really effect you long-term.

Psychedelic drugs cannot turn you crazy. I know someone who's done acid one time, and had, "the worst time of his life." His problem was his insecurity. He's fine now, and honestly if he hadn't told me I'd never have known about it.

Tripping can only make you more crazy if you have a pre-existing condition.

Wiki says:

There has been much speculation concerning the psychological well-being of Syd Barrett. Many believe he suffered from schizophrenia.[32][11] [33] A diagnosis of bipolar disorder has also been considered.[34]

Barrett's use of psychedelic drugs, especially LSD, during the 1960s is well documented. Some believe that Barrett's drug use was responsible for, or at least contributed to, his mental illness. In an article published in 2006, Gilmour was quoted as saying: "In my opinion, his breakdown would have happened anyway. It was a deep-rooted thing. But I'll say the psychedelic experience might well have acted as a catalyst. Still, I just don't think he could deal with the vision of success and all the things that went with it."[35]

Many stories of Barrett's erratic behaviour off stage as well as on are also well-documented. In Saucerful of Secrets: The Pink Floyd Odyssey, author Nicholas Schaffner interviewed a number of people who knew Barrett before and during his Pink Floyd days. These included friends Peter and Susan Wynne-Wilson, artist Duggie Fields (with whom Barrett shared a flat during the late 1960s), June Bolan and Storm Thorgerson, among others.

"For June Bolan, the alarm bells began to sound only when Syd kept his girlfriend under lock and key for three days, occasionally shoving a ration of biscuits under the door."[36] A claim of cruelty against Barrett committed by the groupies and hangers-on who frequented his apartment during this period was described by writer and critic Jonathan Meades. "I went [to Barrett's flat] to see Harry and there was this terrible noise. It sounded like heating pipes shaking. I said, 'What's up?' and he sort of giggled and said, 'That's Syd having a bad trip. We put him in the linen cupboard.'"[37] Storm Thorgerson responded to this claim by stating "I do not remember locking Syd up in a cupboard. It sounds to me like pure fantasy, like Jonathan Meades was on dope himself."[38]

However, in the book Crazy Diamond: Syd Barrett and the Dawn of Pink Floyd, authors Mike Watkinson and Pete Anderson included quotes from a story told to them by Thorgerson that underscored how volatile Barrett could be. "On one occasion, I had to pull him off Lynsey (Barrett's girlfriend at the time) because he was beating her over the head with a mandolin."[39]

According to Gilmour in an interview with Nick Kent, the other members of Pink Floyd approached psychiatrist R.D. Laing with the 'Barrett problem'. After hearing a tape of a Barrett conversation, Laing declared him incurable.[40][41]

Gilmour also proposed, in an interview with the National Post's John Geiger, that the stroboscopic lights used in their shows combined with the drugs could have had a seriously detrimental effect on Barrett's mental health if he was a photo-epileptic who suffered partial seizures. When partial seizures occur in the temporal lobes patients are often misdiagnosed with schizophrenia or psychosis.[42]

After Barrett died, his sister, Rosemary Breen, spoke to biographer Tim Willis for The Sunday Times. She insisted that Barrett neither suffered from mental illness nor received treatment for it at any time since they resumed regular contact in the 1980s.[16] She allowed that he did spend some time in a private "home for lost souls" — Greenwoods in Essex — but claimed there was no formal therapy programme there. Some years later, Barrett apparently agreed to sessions with a psychiatrist at Fulbourn psychiatric hospital in Cambridge, but Breen claimed that neither medication nor therapy was considered appropriate in her brother's case.[16]

His sister denied he was a recluse or that he was vague about his past: "Roger may have been a bit selfish — or rather self-absorbed — but when people called him a recluse they were really only projecting their own disappointment. He knew what they wanted but he wasn’t willing to give it to them." Barrett, she said, took up photography, and sometimes they went to the seaside together. "Quite often he took the train on his own to London to look at the major art collections — and he loved flowers. He made regular trips to the Botanic Gardens and to the dahlias at Anglesey Abbey, near Lode. But of course, his passion was his painting", she said.

Psychologically overwhelmed by the cancellation of his pet SMiLE project and the birth of his first child in 1968, Wilson began to take on a diminished creative role within the Beach Boys. Until about 1970 he remained the group's principal songwriter, but increasingly production reins were handed to younger brother Carl. Wilson mostly oversaw the albums Smiley Smile, Wild Honey and Friends but while these albums were not without merit they performed only modestly on the charts. After that, he all but stopped writing songs and was frequently seen partying in the company of songwriter Tandyn Almer and Three Dog Night singer Danny Hutton. It was during this period that he was introduced to cocaine. The 1969 album 20/20 was made mostly without Wilson's participation, although the Wilson/Love-authored "Do It Again" was a major hit, topping the charts in the UK.

Wilson spent the majority of the following three years in his bedroom sleeping, taking drugs, and overeating. Many of his "new" contributions to Beach Boys albums were remnants of SMiLE (e.g., "Cabinessence", "Surf's Up"), and those that were genuinely new reflected his depression and growing detachment from the world ("'Til I Die", the EP "Mount Vernon and Fairway"). Reportedly, Warner Brothers was so desperate for material from Wilson that the single "We Got Love" (co-written by Ricky Fataar, Blondie Chaplin, and Love) was scrapped from the Holland album in favor of "Sail On, Sailor", a song mostly written by committee (including Almer and Parks) that happened to draw its initial germ from a Wilson chord sequence.

In 1975, Brian's wife and family enlisted the services of controversial therapist Eugene Landy in a bid to help Brian, and hopefully help revive the group's ailing profile. Brian did not stay under Landy's care for long, but during this short period, the doctor managed to help him into a more productive, social frame of mind. The new album 15 Big Ones, consisting of oldies and some new songs was released in 1975 and Brian began to regularly appear live on stage with the band. A Love-orchestrated publicity campaign announced that "Brian is Back". Brian was also deemed to be well enough to do a solo performance on Saturday Night Live in November 1976. In 1977 the cult favourite Love You was released, consisting entirely of new material written and performed by Wilson. He continues to say it is his favourite Beach Boys album.

By 1982, Wilson was regressing into old habits; he was taking large amounts of cocaine, he weighed over 300 pounds, and he was in danger of losing his life. Eugene Landy was once more called into action, and a more radical program was undertaken to try to restore Brian to health. This involved firing him from the Beach Boys, isolating him from his family on Hawaii, and being put onto a rigorous diet and health regimen. This, coupled with long, extreme counselling sessions, brought Brian back to reality. He was certainly healthier and more conversant than previously, but he was also under a strict level of control by Landy. Brian's recovery continued as he joined the band on stage in Live Aid in 1985, and recorded a new eponymous album with the Beach Boys.

It was variously reported that Wilson had either schizophrenia or bipolar affective disorder. Dr. Landy's treatment regimen was not a recognized treatment for either of these mental illnesses. Some years later, during his second marriage, he was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type which supposedly caused him to hear voices in his head. According to the 2006 Peter Ames Carlin biography of Wilson, Catch a Wave, by 1989 the rumor was that Brian either had a stroke or had done too many drugs and was permanently fried. The truth was equally disturbing: tardive dyskinesia, a neurological condition that develops when the system is saturated with too many antipsychotic drugs — like the ones Landy had been steadily prescribing for Brian since 1983.[1] Wilson's drug regimen has now been reduced to a mild combination of antidepressants, which keep him functioning at a more socially acceptable level than he has been at in decades, enabling him to record and tour.

The effects of Brian Wilson's mental illness on his parenting style were discussed by Wilson's daughter Wendy during her appearance in a February 2008 episode of the British reality television show Supernanny.[2] Wilson's daughter Carnie and granddaughter Lola also made an appearance on the episode.

In 1968, while doing a stint at Hemisfair, Erickson started speaking nonsense. He was diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia and sent to a Houston psychiatric hospital, where he involuntarily received electroconvulsive therapy.[4]

The Elevators were vocal proponents of mescaline (peyote), LSD and marijuana use, and were subject to strong attention from police. In 1969, Erickson was arrested for possession of one marijuana joint in Austin. Facing a ten year prison term, Erickson pled not guilty by reason of insanity, which proved to be a mistake. He was first sent to the Austin State Hospital. After several escape attempts, he was sent to the Rusk State Hospital for the Criminally Insane, where he was subjected to more electroconvulsive therapy and Thorazine treatments and held until 1972.

I know someone who went crazy. Not really sure if it's from all the acid, but that seems to be what caused it.

My friend Isaiah went crazy. Him and my other friend Matt used to trip ALL the time, probably tripped more than 1000 times in 5 years. I haven't really seen either of these two for a while and the other day I saw Matt and he told me that Isaiah went crazy. He thinks he can talk to stars and lights. He also tried to kill himself so he was taken to the nutty bin.

That's all I know though and I can't directly relate his insanity to LSD, but it's definitely a strong possibility.

The thing is, no one knows your tripping/ have done drugs unless you tell them.

and after it is all over, you will be fine. I think its paranoia that makes people go a little off the wall.

If you have ever seen any interview with Ken Keasey, he is completely gone.

There is a point where all your paranoid delusions become reality, but as long as you can keep them in check you should be fine.

It's funny how non-drug user's post on a "Better Living Through Chemistry" forum. You have no idea what you're even talking about. I've never been in denial over negative effects that drugs may or may not have. There is an inherent risk to using drugs as there is with any activity. If you dont weigh those risks and you have no idea as to what your taking then you shouldn't be using drugs in the first place.;)

These statements contradict each other.

Psychadelics will not make a normal person crazy. There's no doubt about it. However, like Xim said, they can exacerbate current mental problems or bring out dormant problems. That means that if you have a mental illness that's dormant and benign, it could trigger it. For example, this is the only way a psychadelic drug will make anyone schitzo. They would have to have already had the gene, the psychadelic just brought it out of dormancy.

Unless you have a family history of mental health problems, I wouldn't worry. But tripping once a week is pretty hard. Most experienced users (that I know) limit themselves to once or twice a month.

Try admitting that it was your own fucked up personality that got you into trouble, not the drugs themselves.
If you're an idiot, don't use drugs.
simple.

Maybe elaborate on your drug use?
You can't just put all mind altering substances under the umbrella *drugs* and say they're all bad for you.

I know one person who this happened to. He was apparently a little wacked out to start with but this helped flip him into a psychosis for a bit.

Basically, he was a manager at Taco Bell and sold a little weed on the side. He decided to drop a couple tabs and had one of his shit bag friends trip sit him. His friend didn't do a very good job of it and let him read the bible and other religious texts allowing him to think he was god and/or the son of god.

After that his life really started to fall apart. He was threatening people at his work and throwing away "cursed cups" and costing his employer quite a bit of money. They fired him and he started dealing full out.

He then got it in his head he was the new Tony Montana, but in reality was costing his parents a fortune. He crashed a few cars and couldn't make a profit off his his weed because it was so shitty and he smoked so much of it.

This all led to a fight with his younger brother. They both got dragged away on domestic disturbance charges and had anger management to complete. He decided to skip town.

That started his 3 year run from the pigs all over the U.S. and his continual stupidity which has led him to have legal issues in 4 states. He has just recently showed his face again around here after deciding to serve his time for evasion and his previous domestic disturbance charge.

Yeah, manager of a fast food restaurant to felony fugitive. He's a asshole anyway and I would put him in the ground the first chance I have, but the acid just made it worse.

Do not cut & paste like that again - especially not from Wiki as that is NOT a valid source.

And no, I do not know anyone personally.

In fact I have tripped probably between 500 and 1000 trips in my life so far and probably know more aboiut acid than anyone else here.

I am completely aware of the negative effects of those substances. Iv taken them into consideration long before Iv consumed those substances and decided that I am prepared to suffer the consequences of those negative side effects should something happen as a result of my actions.

Very much unlike the kind of people who usually make those statements towards people like me when I see them hypocritically out in town on a Friday night downing shots of tequila, fighting and lurching in front of cars and buses. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I'm with ya bro.

The worst ones are stoners who worship weed as a "holy herb" and deny the possibility of any negative side effects, despite evidence to the contrary.

OFT. I believe it wont kill you and probably isn't bad once in a while but it does cause people to lose motivation in MANY cases and since it is considered so benign people have on problem over using it and I also hate people who are like "I blaze every day" and seem to think it implies something great.

Yea it won't kill you or give you deadly withdrawals or anything, but it does make you lazy definately, makes you apathetic, and there IS a link between cannabis use and mental illness, whether weed causes/makes mental illnesses worse, or people with mental illnesses smoke weed to help them, there is an undeniable link which either way isn't good.

Stoners are just fuckin' retarded, oh well, I'm glad I've given up drugs and that period of life and lifestyle.

I've never understood how something makes you lazy or apathetic. I think such things are completely within ones control. Personally, and I smoke weed everyday, I don't have a problem accomplishing my goals.

And while we're on the topic of mental illness ... what exactly would mental wellness be? What is considered mentally healthy?

Psychosis. Theres a fun word. Do you know if you were to get high and then laugh at something you normally wouldn't, you can be classified as psychotic? And getting high can then be considered to contribute to psychosis?

Weed sure can make you have just plain random and weird fucking thoughts race through your mind and at times it can even get visual and intense for some. An interesting thing that I have noticed is that many of the chronic stoners claim they never get psychedelic effects from marijuana, rather they just relax and listen to music while gorging on snacks. This may explain a few things about the personality of many (but not all) frequent stonners.

I do, in fact, know someone who was driven quite mad for about 10 months because of acid. Of course, there’s this whole debate of “it’s caused by preexisting psychosis” vs. “It makes you buck wild every time you drop”, and I’m kind of on the fence about it. The subject at hand was almost certainly a little unbalanced before he temporarily ventured into the “Unknown Zone”, but so is every other disaffected freak/druggie/hayseed living in small-town Ohio. And of course, there’s also this whole little bitchy internet duel about the long-term effects and the overall ethicality of drug use that this thread morphed into. Instead of throwing myself into this cyber pissing contest, I’m going to what I do best, and tell you all a story, with no embellishments or stretched truths whatsoever, and let you mull over the facts and make your own decisions.
So, to our story. I live in a small college town in Ohio, which is sandwiched somewhere between postcard-perfect Pleasantville, the banjo player from Deliverance, and beer. Essentially, a bunch of fucks from the suburbs of Cleveland come down here for eight months out of the year and crowd all our bars with their polo shirts and roofie’d gal pals clinging to their broad shoulders. The locals, or “townies”, like myself, feel very separated from this stable, stale drunkenness, and end up pickling ourselves even further into despondency than all those failed football scholarship losers that end up staying here for the rest of their lives. Naturally, not everyone takes to alcohol as their pet vice, so others find slightly more creative/ominous ways to forget their dead-end lives, often wrapping in the warm but false electric blanket of “Spirituality.”
Along with the lost winos and the mid-smoking fry cooks who listen to too much Nirvana, we have a fuck of a lot of hippies. Most of them are disaffected suburban youth who found their dad’s dog-eared, moth-eaten, copy of “On the Road” and his old bong (“Is this a lamp or something?”) in the attic and decided smoking lots of dank weed and listening to the Dead until “Truckin’” is the only song that plays in their head on a regular basis. One such hippie, who shall be named “Baggins” henceforth (due to his resemblance in appearance and mannerisms to hobbits), who took the whole operation one step further. If you so much as walked in his front door, it was apparent that the man was higher than a fucking kite 24/7. Quartz crystals meticulously organized, Ken Kesey books lying around, and like eighty posters of that one picture of Bob Marley smoking a spliff. Well, Baggins also had a propensity for hallucinogens, as was easily evident by his brash behavior. I bumped into him once, and he was dosing wormwood extract on his tongue like it was sour liquid candy. Definitely not your normal human.
Well, as the story goes, Baggins went down to Bonaroo one year (go figure), and managed to snag a hit of good acid from some jaded old Deadhead. Wanting to feel the music even more, he apparently kept nagging the Deadhead for more. The old guy got so pissed, he just dropped a whole sheet in Baggins’ eager hands, and stormed off. Something must have clicked in his mind, because instead of being smart and just taking one more hit, fucker DROPS THE ENTIRE SHEET. Which, purportedly, was somewhere around a hundred and twenty hits. Fire the engines, set course for Unreality.
Fast forward to the week after. Baggins is back in Bum-Fuck Egypt, and he is flipping out. Actually, he’s doing more than flipping out, he’s essentially now living inside the electric mindstorm of LSDLand. I ran into him at the local greasy spoon, before hearing of his adventure. He was in the corner giggling, and stayed there doing that same creepy little tinkling laugh for a good hour. Soon enough, pretty much all the townies know of his little “problem.” Baggins has now become a local oddity, walking around town barefoot, screaming interesting tidbits like “get this parrot off my shoulder!” and “I am not afraid of this nuclear winter!” He once enlisted me and a few hippies to move everything out his apartment because the CIA was watching him, or so he seemed to think. He also seemed to think they had demonic powers. He was so awash in the drug it wasn’t just a matter of him telling himself it was just acid; he had crossed that vague, frightening canyon of the mind and found himself in a place he couldn’t leave. His world was constantly morphing, thinking he was a vampire one second and playing in nonexistent snow the next. He was fried, an acid casualty in the truest sense of the word.
Somehow, this fucker still managed to be able to sell lots of pot, even in the midst of a nearly ten-month trip. One of his customers turned out to be a stooge, and he got carted off to county for a while. Upon returning from four or so months, Baggins was now a lot straighter. Being stuck in a featureless cell probably forced him to fight thru the fog, and he ended up coming back to reality after almost a year of living in his own private hell. He’s very lucid now, although he told me that white walls still move and shift to this day, and he’s always seeing things moving out of the corner of his eye. This is not a cautionary tale or anything of that sort. It’s entirely open to debate as to what acid can do to you and whether or not it’s a good idea. I’ve dosed a couple times myself, but I am determined to never put myself in that position and only take one dose at a time, and I don’t plan to make a habit of it.

Damn I hate that too, my best mate at college is a huge stoner to the point where its the only thing in his life. I smoke with him fairly often when I'm back at college but hes got to the point where it is all he talks about. I hate when your trying to have a legitimate conversation and he somehow always manages to but in and bring weed into it. The worst thing is that he always drags me into to the point where I'm stuck and come off as much of a pot loving stoner as him. Its pretty sad when people have to make weed the thing their life revolves around, I know because iv been there and really... What's so great about it? Big deal you smoke weed, nobody really cares.

And yes to all you stoners in denial of its health effects, long term smoking does fuck you up… Your all just to stoned to realise.

Oh and the next worst thing: "I only take drugs that come from the ground because I know where they came from and what's in them"

Back on topic, any drug that can affect the way your mind works even for a short term has massive potential to cause long term disruption. This may not be actual physical disruption to the way your brain works but obviously if you see something or realise something during a trip it has the potential to affect the way you think and act in the long term.

Like people say, using ethnobotanicals for spiritual use, opening up pathways to new conceptions and discovering things about yourself and society... It can go both ways, for better or worse. When using any drug you are always taking a risk with your mental and physical wellbeing regardless of how safe you think it is or even how safe it actually is there are always potential secondary effects which may or may not be long term. LSD may have been proven to have little to no toxicity and spend very little time in your body, it may have been proven that it does not cause any long term physical damage to your brain or body but it can still fuck you up pretty badly.

My friends uncle is the craziest fuck I have ever met. He lives with his mom, my friends grandmothers house where he also lives. We used to chill there every day after school because his grandma would be gone until 5, and his uncle, who is 35, always hung around with us.

When he was 17, he was a really good snowboarder, on the verge of going pro. One night he took 21 hits of acid, then the next day wanted to trip again but figured his tolerance was way up, so he ate 100 hits. He's never been the same since.

He always goes on long rants about shit that doesn't even make sense, and everyone just stares at him like wtf man shut the hell up. He huffs duster on a regular basis, claiming it as nitrous. Even after I printed a sheet off erowid about how computer duster is not nitrous and is really bad for you, his only response was "I've been doing this since before you were born, I think I know what I'm talking about."

One time a bunch of us were chillin' at my friends house, and he singles me out and tells me he needs to talk to me. He brings me downstairs to the garage, closes the door, and this is the conversation we have (the whole time he looks very nervous and shakey, and is half whispering):

Him: So you know what's been going on around here right?
Me: uhhh no?
Him: Well you see, there's this girl that's been coming around, my girlfriend
Me: you've got a girl friend?!
Him: Well, no, shes just this girl that's been coming around...you haven't heard about this?
Me: no...
Him: Oh..ok then...

Then he just walks back upstairs. At first I thought he was going to rape me or something. I asked my friend what he was talking about later and he said he had no idea, he's just fucking crazy.

Finally one day he stole $500 from his mom, then got into an argument with her and punched her in the face. They sent him away to a mental institution, but brought him back a month or so later. Then one day he drove his car to his dads house, did a bunch of donuts in his front lawn, then carved a message into his door with a bowie knife, left the knife in his mailbox and drove off. He's back in the nut house now, for good. I raided his room and took a bunch of his clothes and CDs. Not like he'll be needing them.

Alright fools, I am going to end this fucking discussion:

Using LSD once every 3 weeks for a few years will not turn you insane. If you had a preexisting (dormant) mental condition before you took acid, you will get a WARNING when you take psychedelic drugs. If you feel like the acid negatively/uncomfortably changes the way you think, feel and behave for multiple days after you've come down, then stop doing hallucinogens!

Tripping 1000 times in a few years' time may very well fuck your mind up royally. But that's your own damn fault! you voided the warranty, dumbass, so live with the consequences. Ever met a person who has been drunk over a thousand times in a few years? I have, and his ID card may have said 25 years old, but he fucking looked 45. Ever met a 1000x speed user? I haven't, but I've seen pictures. Ever met a 1000x [blank] user? It's called natural selection, people!

I know a kid who after doing a whole summer of psychedelics, was totally burnt out.

Now this kid wasn't the smartest, but he lived a fairly normal life of getting high and just being a general faggot. However, after the summer of 2007, there was definatley a change. The way he talked was what was affected the most, it's as if he was handicapped all the time. When he spoke, he would talk so slowly, and it seemed as if it took him forever to process his thoughts.
Now I was never on the best terms with this kid, we've had our clashes so it isn't like we talked to each other very often, but when I spoke to him, it seemed as if he had never met me. He talked to me neutrally, and didn't seem to project any feelings of negativity when we spoke. I heard he did just a fuckload of LSD and shrooms, and it doesn't surprise me as he had parties at his place quite often. Most recently, as in a few weeks ago, a friend of mine went to a party hosted by him to find him just totally incapacitated, still doing LSD.
So yes, moderation is definatley the key with hallucinogens and psychedelics. There's no doubt abuse of anything can have negative effects in the longrun, not just 'bringing out of dormant disorders'.

I don't know anyone who went crazy from acid, but I know someone who got fucked up from DXM. He took it every day for a month or more straight, and started acting completely fucking insane. He quit his job dropped out of school(it was college, and he had a full ride scholarship) and would walk around all day in his underwear taking random naps in complete darkness while his friends watched TV in his living room. Eventually we got concerned enough to convince him to let us take him to the doctor, and they ended making him spend 72 hours in a mental institution. Now, more than a year later, he has been diagnosed with something I think is called Schitzo Affective Disorder. Moral: Don't do shitty psychedelics for a month straight.

Default Re: Anyone know anyone who turned crazy from LSD?

Posted this in another thread but it applies here more:

This is after a period of time between late last February until early September. Throughout that time, over 200 blotters were eaten, several liquid doses, lots of ketamine, MDMA, mushrooms, n-n-dmt, and various research chemicals. Also went through countless amounts of nitrous chargers.

I'm sure there are more, but I can't remember them (surprise surprise.)

Anyway, here goes:

Most prominent effect my psychedelic (ab)use had on me last summer was a noticeable psychosis in the fall. Just a general disconnection from reality and severely distorted thought patterns. There was a lot of 'cross chatter' going on in my head too. Kind of like how you see in cartoons with the good conscious and the bad conscious and they start arguing.

I also had relatively severe HPPD (Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder). Basically recurring visual distortions that would come on without much of a warning. Not like a full blown flashback, but seeing minor distortion in objects and seeing a lot of what I dubbed "shadow rats." I'd see these dark shadow figures out of the corner of my eye, and when I'd look at them they'd scurry away much like a rat would. HPPD would kick into high gear whenever I got really stoned.

Other than those just some minor mental occurrences throughout the next couple months. I kind of isolated myself for a while because I was having a bit of "Syd Barret" syndrome. Like I said, I was disconnected from reality for a bit. My mind needed some recovery and that wasn't going to happen with outside stimuli like friends.

You think I don't talk to him IRL? Hes my best mate and I talk to him about everything I was like that myself once so I know what its like to be there when weed is one of the only things you do or care about, it just so happens that this friend is also in total denial of how he is and what hes like towards people and not only ruins his own reputation but my own. All he talks about is weed and managed to bring that into every conversation I'm having myself makes us both look like your average stupid stereotypical weed obsessed stoner.

Not if you use them responsibly.

You can use a drug as responsibly as you like, you can drive, ride or walk down the street as responsibly as you like but as I said there is always the potential for something to go wrong. You are still putting a foreign substance into your body which is changing the way your body and brain works. You can make sure you are well below the LD50 or where side effects at your tolerance level may become apparent. You can have 10 trip sitters and be in a padded room but however responsible you are there is always a potential for your body to have an adverse reaction, your mental state to suffer or for you to just do something stupid under the influence.
No way am I condoning the use of drugs, I like to get as mashed as the next person but my point is that there is no such thing as 100% safe however responsible you are.

All I’m pointing out is that the statement:

Drugs only fuck you up if you use them irresponsibly. Doing anything irresponsibly fucks people up. So basically, you fucked up because you were irresponsible, not just because you did drugs.

Is totally wrong. You can be as responsible as you like, drugs can still fuck you up… They are just less likely to do so.

Which basically prove this statement true:

its funny how drug users are in complete denial of the negative effects caused by substances

At least for a small number of people.

Tripping 1000 times in a few years' time may very well fuck your mind up royally. But that's your own damn fault! you voided the warranty, dumbass, so live with the consequences.

I'm assuming you mean me there.

Well, first of all it wasn't over just a few years, it was over around 15 to 20 years. There are no negative effects of having done it either. All consequences have been all good, I assure you.

wouldn't that mean you know more about tripping? or more so, the effects of lsd?
to claim to know more about acid is a bold statement. there are a few people on here, whos knowledge about acid might surpass your own.

Well it's tripping that we're talking about, isn't it? And I'm sure there are a couple/few who also had organic chemistry in college who had an interest in learning such thing and who actually went a lot deeper into things than I did - I never said I was the number one; just that I am up there, which I am.

I said what I did in anticipation of those who always come in threads like this and quote from different internet sources - people quoting wiki like gospel truth always amuses me somewhat. They quote these things and act like they know of what they speak. I don't care how many sources and shit someone can quote at me, but if it goes against what my experiences have been I am not very likely to discount my experience.

no disrespect meta, i know that you knew what I meant.

Actually, no I didn't. I took it as another person who likes to nitpick what I say to be able to find fault with it [and they say I have no life, lol].

When you start to think about "losing it", the first thing that comes to my attention is the actual cognition of "What am I actually losing?" My mind? My awareness of reality? My acceptance of reality? Do I even accept reality? EEK!

If you allow yourself to dwell on an unfair, unanswerable conundrum, chances are you'll "lose" the ability to ignore the fact that you are unintentionally ignorant most of the time, and when you are on acid, you tend to let these unconditional subjects leak in.

For me, the sheer beauty of knowing the difference between the two is much too gratifying to let myself lose it.

theres a guy in my town, he used to be really smart, but now he is the town bum. I dont know if its because of lsd, but what i heard was he was really into his drugs and tried some crazy shroom, and was never the same ever again.

i see this guy all the time so i know that hes homeless, and i know that he is crazy, but i dont know how true the drug story is.

Thing is, I can totally see myself doing various hallucinogens for an extended period of time. Tried shrooms, loved them. Did acid, great expiriences. Much more gratifying then weed, which I used to swear by. I'm working on getting some of the rarer things for me to try.

I'm just worried that I'll start disrespecting reality at one point. Check this out, I drove my car on one blotter, and while the ride seemed wild and like a total adventure, I still went no more than 40 mph and obeyed all trafic rules. But, what if I take enough drugs, and decide to ditch common sense, permanently? It could get messy.

That's what I'm worried about.

its also funny that meta says theres no negative effects from his excessive acid use when hes like a 50 year old dude who is addicted to opiates and posts in a drug forum full of a bunch of 17 year old kids so he can sound wise. think about it, totse isn' t real life.

yea if you wanna end up like that drop all the acid you want. no offense meta.

Actually, you did say that you probably knew more about acid than anyone on this site, and quite honestly, I dont doubt that you know quite a bit...but usually, outside of safety issues, or telling how many hits youve dropped, you stay out of threads like these....

and I figured that you knew I meant, because Ive been here for years, and have never been 1 of the nit pickers, or one to shit on your authority.
I apologize for the misunderstanding.

I don't know, honestly. I felt stronger than the drug each time and was able to control my behaviour and feelings. You guys know someone who "lost it" on acid?

Stop asap or kill yourself please.

If used in the correct mindset and in the right surroundings, there is little to no chance that LSD will have any ill side effects. However, all LSD being used in the "drug culture" is, most of the time, missing one or the other or both. Every chemical that anyone ingests has the possibility of having negative side-effects, even ones that most socially acceptable people don't think of as chemicals.

The only reason there are bad LSD experiences is because of misuse of the drug.

If at any point during an LSD trip you feel as if you're being affected negatively, you should probably not trip for a while until you uncover what was affecting you negatively. When you hear about people going "insane" from LSD use, it's not use. It's abuse. The fact that most people that try LSD are not making informed decisions about their drug use and just using as another way to get high, are going to have the same negative effects that are attained from overusing any other chemical.

With moderation and proper use (proper meaning using it for uses other than just getting "high"), there is absolutely no harm from LSD use, even in people that have underlying mental conditions (especially if they are using the LSD to release suppressed material about where the underlying mental conditions stem from). Less harm than a lot of other drugs that people use such as prescription benzodiazepines and opiates which have high potential of addiction (because the users are trying to escape from something, be it mental or physical pain).

Oh, and the people that do misuse drugs are simply serving a role in society, or refusing to serve a role in society and weeding themselves out.

I think it was more a matter of twisted pragmatic thinking than insanity. Knowing Baggins, he probably just thought, "Hey, if I take all of this at once, I won't have to take it over time." I know that sounds completely ridiculous, but some people have that particular mode of thought.

One of my homies best friends did. He dropped 6 tabs of acid one day and I guess was trippin real hard. At some point during his trip he decided to drink some orange juice, but I guess was too fucked up and spilled a bunch.
So my friend tells him to clean it up, which he starts doing with some paper towels and started repeating how he was "absorbing the orange juice" and then somehow convinced himself that he had become the glass of orange juice, and started begging everyone to not spill him again.
Everyone thought it was funny or he was playin a joke so they started pushin him around and he started screaming, then someone knocked him over and he just locked up. Muscles stiff and speechless.
They took him to a hospital the next day after he didnt change at all, and hes been in the loony bin ever since, apperantly he cant walk, and they cant wheel him around in a normal wheelchair since he wont bend his knees.

I triped acid for the second time in the woods with a kid named Metty. I pretty sure it was his first time but while we were trippin he was being a big wierdo and not your normal acid wierdness. Ever since that night his head twitches everytime he talks to anyone. He also can't have a non spiritual conversation to save his life.
