Re: Easy ways to speed up PC
Get some more RAM. It's pretty cheap and it noticeably increases performance.

Re: Easy ways to speed up PC
Prevent any any crap you don't want starting up when you log in - go to Run, type in msconfig, go to the Startup tab and untick what you don't want. Make sure you leave your antivirus ticked though, as you most definetely want that to start with the computer. Stuff like Realplayer and Acrobat can be unticked as you don't need their bloaty tray apps running all the time.
That will free up quite a bit of memory and make your machine faster in general if you've got a huge pile of crap starting up currently.

Re: Easy ways to speed up PC
What operating system do you have? XP and Vista both have a lot of information online on speeding up your computer, and, like munkeyQ said, disabling certain unused startup programs.
If you have XP, go to start>control panel>performance and maintainence, and select 'adjust visual effects'. Changing some of those can help.

Re: Easy ways to speed up PC
For XP: - If your using SP2 upgrade to SP3 now
- If your system has 256 Ram or 286 Ram upgrade to 512 RAM NOW!
- If your using a slow HDD (<4200) or have a small partition for C:\ (<3 GB) increase or upgrade Now.
- If your running AVG or KAS unless your system is P4 with good Ram 512 Mb upgrade to NOD32
- Install only selected programs, disable unnecessary services and clean the start up list (msconfig)
- Delete the prefetch folder files (C:\Windows\Prefetch)
- Update your system (Windows regularly) and keep updated software for performance improvements
- Adjust the visual settings to increase performance.
For Vista: - If you don't have the hardware to Run Vista downgrade to Xp.
Overall you can' t do much with Vista without messing things up, upgrade to SP1 if you haven't and just keep tabs on running processes.

Re: Easy ways to speed up PC
A clean keyboard (meaning not sticky.) would really help typing speeds.

Re: Easy ways to speed up PC
There services in Vista that you certainly can stop and disable. Like The Tablet PC service.

I second this. More RAM is such an easy and cheap upgrade you can't not do it. I keep a few gigs of DDR and DDR2 RAM in my car for when I'm fixing comps and don't wanna wait through all their shit. If the person doesn't wanna buy it off me i just stick it in there while working on the comp.

what he is trying to say is that you need to stop whacking off and using your keyboard as the target. shoot it to the right or left and it will result in a less sticky keyboard.
