New computer won't power up
I just built my new computer and I'm not having any luck with it. the first time I plugged it in and flipped the PSU power switch, then noticed smoke. I quickly unplugged it and threw up a bit.
I plugged it in again and flipped the PSU on. No smoke this time, so I figure "Awesome, I'm not out hundreds of dollars " The power supply is working and the little green LED on the motherboard is on. I push the power button on the computer and nothing happens. I swapped out the PSU with the one from my old computer and the same thing happened.
Can someone tell me what I fucked up?
I'm using a Rosewill RP600V2-S-SL 600W PSU, a MB ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe NF570SLI AM2 motherboard, AMD A64 X2 5000+ CPU, and 4 gigs RAM.

Re: New computer won't power up
Did you correctly connect the wires from the case to your motherboard?
usually you can just poke 2 of them with a screwdriver if your testing. Shouldn't do any harm.
also, I would NOT use that power supply that smoked. RETURN RETURN RETURN.

Re: New computer won't power up
Throw that PSU away. NOW. IF it smoked, it's garbage. Actually, it was garbage to begin with, being a Rosewill. If you are lucky, none of your other components will be burned up.

Re: New computer won't power up
Well, I found the problem. I, in a moment of complete fucktardery, installed the motherboard by affixing it directly to the case with no buffer between the electronic shit and the metal, which fucked my shit up royally. I fixed that problem, and now my computer is running.
However, I now have a completely different set of problems. I'm not getting any internet connection, despite the Cat5 cable being hooked in and the lights around it being on, Firefox crashes as soon as I try to start it up, my DVD drive is not being recognized, and I keep getting a bunch of "New Hardware Detected" windows, but I don't know where the drivers for all of them are. I think the USB drives on the back of the motherboard are dead, because nothing works in them.
Jesus, I suck so much. Help me

Sounds like all your motherboard drivers are gone.
Network card not working.. dvd drive.. new hardware detected.

Bleh, what was I thinking. Of course on a fresh build your going to need drivers! Pop the cd in that came with your motherboard and install ONLY the network drivers. Then go get later drivers off the internet.

Re: New computer won't power up
Hit the manufacturer's website for drivers first - the internet and USB issue is almost certainly to do with drivers.
If it still behaves weird though...

Re: New computer won't power up
Well, OP to tell you the truth i do really feel that the motherboard might ahem could have fucked up, first thing first.
Install drivers
Second after installing all the drivers, download Everset Ultimate Edition, do some benchmarking, and check the voltages.
If you feel there is some bit of un-necessary lag in the Graphic card or you are having weird problem or you motherboard sensors are fucked up.
Shutdown and then open the motherboard, flip it and look carefully for any black spots or weird smell (burned).
If everything thing is fine, download UBCD and run Memory test.
Make sure you install the drivers first and the rest steps are for emergency purposes only.
Good Luck.
