Rotten tomatoes?
Does anyone else feel like they're the worst, most stuck-up twats on the internet? They kill every movie with their snobbery. I don't think I ever agree with their reviews.

Re: Rotten tomatoes?
I thought they just average out the reviews from other sites?

Re: Rotten tomatoes?
Yeah, critics are almost all pretentious snobs like they can't enjoy a movie unless it's an overwrought war drama or up its ass with social commentary.

Re: Rotten tomatoes?
the "top critics" section is usually pretty accurate.

Re: Rotten tomatoes?
I haven't used Rotten Tomatoes in awhile, but from what I remember of it, I don't think they're nearly "snobby" enough -- both the film critics and the users who review on the site. (Roger Ebert in particular has gotten very soft in his old age.) I think more people need to develop a sense of critical consciousness towards film and other media -- at this point they're too pervasive in our culture and too huge of an influence on our lives not to be taken seriously.
Furthermore, there's a huge difference between a pretentious asshole film snob, and someone who's seen a lot of movies and actually cares about them. Probably a lot of people would consider me a film snob, but I take a "no-brow" approach to film. Exploitation trash, German New Wave, Hollywood teen comedies, musicals, narrative porn, Cinema of Transgression, Stan Brakhage type seizure flicks, cheap westerns, whatever -- I try to look at them all with a keen eye. Film is the youngest and most modern artform, and therefore the most important for people to view critically.

Try this link:

It's a quiz that will match you with a film critic you'll most likely have similar taste to. I tried it and the guy I got matched to has had some pretty good reviews for the most part.

Re: Rotten tomatoes?
How can the site be snobby if it's an average of tons of different reviewers...
I go to Rotten Tomatoes quite often, and usually look at the top reviewers.\
The reviewers matching is a good site. Actually like I just said I really like Rotten Tomatoes and that was my top match, and Ebert and Travers who I know also were there. So good to know.
