Default Fixing a Chairlift Chair

My local ski area just replaced a chairlift with some awesome new chairs. They put the old chairs up for sale and I got my hands on one and for the past week I've been removing the old paint (Lead Paint?) and sanding down the rust.

now I've got a chair ready for painting! but alas, there seems to be rust at a few of the joints.

Is there anything I can do aside from brazing(sp?) that would fix the rust and keep structural integrity?

well first you are going to have to grind all that shit off then i would recommend a mig weld not brazing.
brazing would only weaken the structure further .But i could be wrong.

I second welding.

It would make an excellent porch swing.

If you have access to a sandblaster (you probably don't), you could sandblast the rust away. But grinding will also work. Oil 'er up after you're done sanding to prevent the rust from coming back.

Sandblaster would be nice but...

Dont put oil on it, once you get the heavy rust off with a grinder take a wire wheel angle grinder attatchment to it to make things smooth and shiney, then get some rustoleum primer and put on a coat or two, then you can paint whatever color you like.

I think I'll ask my uncle if he can fix it up then, he's got a mig welder. As for the porch swing, that's what I plan on using it as. I'm going to mount it under my deck and put some cup holders on it. possibly upholster the seat as well.

I've looked around at local rental shops and absolutely no one within a 30 mile radius has one. for now I'm stuck with Paint Remover, Sanding, and using a Dremel on the nooks and crannies.

as for the oil, once I'm done sanding it down to the metal, I'm going to put a few coats of Rustoleum primer on then going to put a dark green/brown/black finish on it, so the oil would just get in the way with that.

This is where it's going to be hanging. Within the next year or so, I'm planning on putting in a hottub in that corner, so I think the chairs gonna be mounted on the outside.
