| Art and Design If you like it, is it Art? What is the difference between a good design, a bad design and bad taste? Does form follow function? If something works, does it matter what it looks like? |

Skate photography
I've just started doing some skate photography ( www.skimask123.deviantart.com ) and im liking it alot. Its very different from what i had been doing before, but i like it alot more. Im wondering if anyone else here does skate photography, and if so what are you using? Right now I'm using a Rebel xTi with the 18-55mm lens, but i want to invest in a fisheye. Also, how nesciasry are strobes?
Thanks

Re: Skate photography
just make sure u don't photograph flip tricks. flip tricks are only for money and show. they're NO fun. try to snap stuff that puts the viewer in the picture, like you can IMAGINE carving the hill/bowl or powersliding, or ollie'ing a pyramid in first person that puts an emphasis on the drop. edit ur shit to add colors, effects, and anti-new world order shit, please. good luck, post ur work!!

Re: Skate photography
Your skate photos are really good. From the ones you've got on your deviantart, you use a lot of interesting perspective and good composition. I'm not really good at doing in-motion kind of photos, but I would recommend you invest in a good flash; it'll open up a lot of doors for you and give you more options in your shooting. I personally despise using flash in most applications, but admit (begrudgingly) that is can be a great help if used correctly.

Re: Skate photography
try dragging the shutter, (slightly long exposure but still handholdable), you might get some desirable motion blur.

Re: Skate photography
nice pics dude
ive done very little skate photography but have a few things to say.
firstly wide angle lenses are great!
those 180 degree fish eye lenses are pushing it tho for skating. makes ur subject matter too small.
you dont need strobes at all for most sports photography
also try experimenting with depth of feild to give some of ur photos more of a focus
