Default Death Note's over on Adultswim...

I was impressed with the series. I thought the character development was good, and you really get into the whole, Light vs. L/Near thing.

I disliked Misa though, too much comic relief. And where was she in the last episode? Shoehorned into the credits when she could've added depth to her character?

All in all, 8.5 out of 10. Your thoughts? And I am 95% sure this thread's been done before. Eat me niggers.

Also, reg is open? Fuck yeah.

I liked Death Note, but I didn't like the english dubs. However I, believe it's one of the more intelligent anime's out there.

Misa in the credits is just one of those things about anime, like Winry in FMA's credits. I do think she added a nice element to the plot, even though her character development was seriously lacking.

I do think she was more interesting (and logical) to watch then Near though. It still feels like they got ahead of themselves and gave up when it came to Near. He just wasn't the kind of brilliance needed to bring the show back up to par after L's death.

Without giving spoilers; I really loved the series. It's because it's unique. A battle of great minds, which I really got into.

I also thought Misa could of had more character development. I don't know what else they could of done with her though, it just seemed she was too much of a puppet so that the audience had a hard time relating to her.

37.
Stop at about 26/27, that's where the timeskip is.
Read: That's where the show ends.

Death Note is shallow. It brings up moral questions and then doesnt do anything about them. I've read that it was meant to be about entertainment over philosophy, but it fails at that too, dragging out the one concept of Kira vs L out far too long. The point where it starts to completely fail is debatable, but I'd put it around when L captures Misa.

All that neverminding the rather out-of-place second opening/endings.

This is actually what I like about it. There are no clearly defined lines of good an evil. There's a large spectrum of grey and moral ambiguity.

There's often no clearly defined "good" and "evil". Life's not that simple. Crime was a fraction of what it was when Kira was around. After it became clear he was gone, crime shot right back up again.

We see a similar thing in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Lord Genome and the Anti-Spirals are made out to be the bad guys, but they are trying to prevent total annhilation and see the ends justifying the means.

I just finished wayching the series and I have one question how did near find out Kira was using a proxy kira?

The series should have ended as soon as L died The aftermath might have been fun to see.

The focus of death note was never on such things - always on the battle of wits between L/M/N and Kira. I'm willing to bet that the very existance of such questions in death note is pure coincidence of the story setup.

Yes, like I said: it brings up moral questions... and then doesnt do anything about them.

Yeah, it does.

It hammers the point of moral subjectivity home throughout the entire series.

Light is doing something which he believes to be evil in order to accomplish a greater good of ultimate justice. Such being the case, if the ends are good even if the means aren't, does that make it good or bad?

It's grey. That's the entire point. It's up for the viewer to decide. There is no simple answer here. Personally, I think his original intent to rid the world of criminal scum by killing them himself is justifiable. That's along the lines of what I would do if I had the notebook. But along that path he decided to make a game out of it instead of stcking to his original goal, and that's where he got off track.

In the end, Kira loses. So by his own decree, that makes him evil. But the world became criminal and violent once again when they realized there was no more Kira to judge them. So what does that say about traditional perceptions of justice?

What separates the winners from the losers is what separates the bad guys from the good guys. It's not some objective moral tapestry, but popular perception.

That same scene was in the anime.

Well, shit. How can you say it never resolved the issue if you only watched half the series?

Well, shit. How can you say it never resolved the issue if you only watched half the series?2/3 of the series, roughly. But true enough - after seeing aforementioned 2/3rds of the series and not seeing any significant contemplation on the issue, I figured it was fairly safe to assume there was none there. Light's complete surety of his rightness didn't help.

The entire ending of the series in my mind was horrible not to spoil it ofr everyone else but Light, Near AND Mello were just way too smart to get sucked up in such a simple( Im not sure what to call it) psychological battle and they could of made the ending alot more...complicated if anyone can understand that?

**SPOILERS AHEAD**

Didn't watch the entire anime series, but read the manga series. I don't know if they changed anything in the anime but...

The story is amazing up until L dies. The exchanges between L and Light were brilliant. The strategy, the deceit, the plans, the tension, everything was so good.

Then you get to the second half, where the quality falls apart. It basically devolves into "I can trust you.....OR CAN I??" Then they start throwing in more Shinigami and Kiras to keep things interesting. Plus they make up bullshit character motivation so they can somehow justify the finale.

And what an ending...fucking terrible. A double switch? That's the best they could come up with? Light is way too smart to not have anticipated that. Kira 2 (3?) should have just kept a piece of Death Note paper on him at all times, sewn in his clothes or something.

Bah. Started out so good, then the author became lazy.

And if you want to find out what happens to Misa at the end, read the manga. Or I'll tell you if you want.

Thank you I thought the exact same thing why would you take the entire book with you to kill a handful of people when just a page or even a piece would be easier to watch over

DN started good with all the mental sparring between Kira and L. After L died, well, it got boring. The series should have ended when L died.

My sister nags me relentlessly to watch the real series so I finally got to "work" downloading a torrent.
