Default going to the pawn shop?

i thought about putting this in bad ideas but figured i would get slightly better posts here... anyways:

I had a good friend who went through some unfortunate times and ended up living out of his car. Well i trusted him enough to help him out with some money and even though he had a job he only paid me back 30$. He's always been a good guy besides this and we've kept in touch just to make sure he's alive ( i'd really hate to loose him as a friend over money if thats what he chooses). Anyways he's decided he's going to get his life straight and join the army (i tried to talk him out of it but no dice) before he does so he says he wants to make things right between us. I'm elated expecting to get my money and friend back instead he gives me 4 gold rings. He's about to go into the army so i knew if i refused i'd never see him or any other reimbursement again so i took them but not only before i asked him why he was so busy he couldn't of pawned them first... but anyways my gf thanks gold is tacky (wtf?) so i really have no use for these but to sell them

now my other friends are telling me not to go to a pawn shop because they'll think im just a junkie looking for enough to get a fix. they say i should go to a jewler since 2 of the rings have diamonds, 1 has a pearl, and the other has an opal. I dont know of any jelwers other than the ones at the mall and im a little hesitant that they would buy these or even worse that if they did the fbi would come knocking on my door for recieving stolen property which I DONT KNOW if they are or not

yeah so whats the best way of getting my money back without getting screwed by a store owner or police?

Yeah, and that would definitely be a first-time incident in their shop.

They rip off anyone if said person lets them. Drugs got nothing to do with that. Come across as ignorant and all they see is $$$.

Get them appraised at the jewelers, and some 'official' document stating its worth.

Then go around pawn shops with your document and see where you can get the best deal.

Look in your local yellow pages under "coins and collectibles," and go to a coin dealer that also deals with jewelry. these guys know jewelry better than the average pawn shop, and will thus be able to pay you if they command a premium over simply their precious metal value. you can't be guaranteed they'll do you right with a fair price, but that is up to you to not get ripped off, but understand they also have to take home some profit too...

i have a very good suggestion that will answer your question and make absolutely sure that you get the most money possible.

but im not going to post it because this thread has nothing to do with drugs and shouldnt be cluttering up the forum.
