I have located some fresh poppy pods, they are a little over walnut size and I was wondering if its possible to some how make these into a tea without drying them, if there isn't, how would i go about drying them and what are doses like?

Make slits in the pods so that the white stuff comes out, collect it, let it dry, smoke it.

I could be entirely wrong, but I believe once the pods are separated from the stalk, then this technique is rendered ineffective.

There is two ways you can do this.

Grind up the poppy pods fairly well, until they almost resemble coffee grinds. Take the powder and put into a pot of boiling water and then after boiling for some time let it simmer for several hours. Filter the liquid to take out the powder and then evaporate the water. Or you can take the powder and add it to alcohol, isoprypyol alcohol, the stuff you can buy for dirt cheap anywhere works just fine, but if you would like to make an extraction into alcohol to drink, use some liquor. Put the powder into the alcohol, let it sit covered for about 24 hours, stirring it every once in awhile, filter the powder out, and let the alcohol evaporate.

I don't really see why, as the opium is in the pods not the stalk.

I kinda need to know whether or not they have to be connected to the stalks for opium to come out. PLease can someone let me know if its okay to pick them and THEN make slits?

Are they plants, in the ground?!

If so, make shallow slits and collect the opium latex after it turns brown to black (a couple hours later).

Leave them in the ground and do this for a few days until they are milked dry.

At least, that's what I do.

I don't believe you can bleed the opium out of the pod if it has been removed from the ground.

However, I just tried poppy pod tea for the first time with two friends. I have a fairly high opiate tolerance, so I wasn't expecting much. It was just that it was summer and I had $20 in paypal to waste. So I ground up about 25 large, dried poppy pods and let sit in water on the stove for about 2 hours. I then filtered using a french press and through the mixture in the cooler.

You'll have a hell of a time swallowing it all, but I got through it with a bottle of grapefruit juice. I believe the procedure for fresh, but detached stalks and pods would be similar to what I did. Make sure to remove the stalks first though!

Why did you cut them down, man?? Makes more sense to make smokable opium by bleeding the pods, than to make tea from 'em, surely (as nice as tea can be...).

You could try slicing them if they're still fresh, as the latex and opiate compounds may still leak out and you can make semi-smokable opium-y stuff. If not, just dry the pods, blend them up and make some tea - bit o' lemon juice and honey, make sure you have a day to kill, and relax.

See, these plants are at an area that I see everyday, but its not my property. This pisses me off to no end because I know they are just planted there for decoration purposes and whatever but I could be getting opium out of those babies!
So my question is, would i be better off just picking some of these things and drying them out? Its gunna be pretty hard for me to make slits and come back and harvest all of the dried up opium.
If you guys suggest me drying them, how do I know making them into tea will work? I have no idea how mature these things are, they are walnut size, and I picked a pod and took it home, it oozed minute amounts of white sticky milkish shit.
