EARTH
Default Ubuntu Linux Sound

Version 2.6.22-14-generic has sound that works properly. However, after upgrading and updating version "2.6.24-17"/18/19 all have CHOPPY sound. I tried messing around with the audio, changing it from "Autodetect", to ALSA, and to OSS.

My sound card is "HDA Intel". Anybody know what to copy+paste from .14 into .17/18/19 to make it work? Or anything I should install for this?

Thanks.

Not a whole lot of info to go on, you could have a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Gutsy_Intel_HD_Audio_Controller for tips.

This assumes that you are running Gutsy and you have problems with sound in general and not just with a certain app (like zsnes). The basic premise is that you need to tell your soundcard module the proper options to use or that you need to update the modules by recompiling alsa-modules.

Prometheum said to try this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...71&postcount=9

He's having problems posting right now, so I'm relaying a couple messages.

I think most issues occur from either the program, the driver, or not knowing how to manipulate alsamixer.

This is a known bug in the hda-intel driver.

Is your choppiness only in the left channel? You can check by going into alsamixer (the ncurses one) and using Q and Z to manipulate the left channel and E and C to manipulate the right channel.

The fix at this time is to pass the model parameter and the position_fix value in /etc/modprobe.d/options like it says in the forum post I linked to.

i've had serious problems with the sound too, but i just set it to pulse audio in the sound menu (everywhere except in the mixer where i use alsa) and now everything works fine. Anyway this is a question you'd better put on ubuntu forums (that's where i got my solution) not totse.

Cheers
