yea so I got back from the doctor like a week ago I told her Ive been kinda nervous lately so she gave me 2mg xanax xr ive been crushing them down to powder and taking it with water sometimes 2 at a time. my question is how much xanax am I actually taking I notice when I don't have it I feel nervous and almost scared also Ive been smoking about a half ounce to an ounce of club weed everyday out of a bong with ice. which has nothing to do with the xanax but what could I do to feel better its like weed doesn't even get me high anymore and I feel weird when I don't have the benzo's anyone have experience with xanax xr also I don't mix it with alcohol cuz I black out evertime

Whereas coke is bad because you like 'natural highs' which is why you're taking xanax right? Just because you're buying things over the counter doesn't make them any better. Here's my advice: take all the xanax you have, down half a bottle of extra-strength vodka and wait to see what happens.

not sure what you're asking... its easy to get addicted to xanax if you like the feeling, so if you've been taking 4mg each day for the last week you've built a dependency to it. if you quit taking it, your anxiety will be worse than when you started.. you will have these withdrawals for a while unless you keep taking it. if you're taking it 4mg at a time that means you're abusing it to get fucked up. So if you value your memory and what mental capacity you have, you might want to taper your dosage down until you don't need it every day.

This could be for several reasons.

One, it could be because you do have a legitimate anxiety condition, in which case feeling nervous/scared without the anxiolytic is more or less normal.

Two, you're developing a physical tolerance to the alprazolam, and what you're experiencing is a taste of withdrawal along the lines of rebound anxiety. In my opinion, from a medical standpoint, I don't consider Xanax useful when administered BID etc. for general anxiety purposes because the relatively short length of it's duration inevitably leads to not only more frequent dosing (not uncommon for Xanax patients to require 4x daily dosing), but more periods, albeit short ones, of rebound anxiety between these doses.

For panic attacks, or for PRN use in general, especially related to social anxiety, I don't think there is anything better than Xanax. Tolerance tends to build quickly with repeated and frequent use (ie. daily) but if used only on a true as-needed basis, and sparingly, that same dose will likely be effective for the patient who uses it responsibly for an indefinite amount of time. I've known people who have been prescribed to Xanax for 5+ years who have never needed a dose increment because of the fact that they rarely use more than a few tablets in a week.

You'll get better control of your anxiety by taking that XR as-is; it's the only proper way Xanax is effective as an all-day anxiety treatment, IMO.

Tolerance is still going to raw-dog you though.

If you feel you do need all-day anxiety relief I recommend giving Klonopin a shot before settling for the Xanax. Most doctors are fairly open to this especially if they prescribed the alprazolam first.
