Thumbs up Cormac Macarthy?

I just finished No Country for Old Men - and I was rather impressed.

It read very easily, and was quite intense. I looked up his books on amazon - but all the plots seemed really alluring. I'm not sure which one to choose! Any suggestions?

I currently own All The Pretty Horses, but The Blood Meridian synopsis really grabbed my attention.

Any recommendations? I just got done with a large Stephen King binge....which was later followed by a Hubert Selbey Jr. binge - so I'm looking for a new author to sink my teeth into.

Enlighten me! Please!

The only one I've read is Blood Meridian. And I do strongly suggest it.

That book took me forever to get through, mostly because I had to adapt to his gritty, minimalist writing style. I'm a creative writing major at CU, and after reading BM, Macarthy haunted my own writing style for months. Couldn't get that voice out of my own writing. Weird.

Read The Road.

The layout is simple enough, and he avoids chapters. At times it feels like an epic poem more than a novel, but it's good; not so much in the content (well, it depends on your liking) as the after thought.

It's a post-apocalyptic novel which centers around a boy and his father and how they look to survive from cannibals, encounter cadamytes, etc.

Pretty heart-wrenching, if you ask me.

Check it out.

Thumbs up Re: Cormac Macarthy?

Another vote for The Road.

Its very well written, and lets your imagination run riot with his spartan descriptions.
