ITT: I help you find a job.
This is is a thread for young people who need a job, any job, most likely minimum wage. Alot of people dont know how to find one, or how to get past the unicru survey application, so here it goes.
Step 1:
Look for different workplaces around your home that you can see your self working in. Pharmacies, grocery stores, fast food joints, electronics stores, movie theaters etc. Don't worry about places that sell alcohol, most are allowed to hire people under 18. I work in a CVS, and we sell liquor, alcohol, prescriptions etc. Ask your friends around if they know anyone who works in a store where they can help you get a job. This makes things alot easier.
Step 2:
After you find a couple of spots you would like to work in, get online and find their websites. Look around for their phone number, you will need this for later. Now look for the career option usually located in small letters on the bottom of their home page. Now find the Hourly Store position employment application.
Step 3:
Start filling out all the information, name, social, etc. Now when you get to the survey part you need to remember this. No matter how you really feel, you always need to put your answer as either Strongly Agree or Strongly Disagree. You NEED to ALWAYS have a strong feeling towards whichever side you think is most appropriate. Never choose slightly agree, slightly disagree, or neutral, NEVER. For some reason this lowers your score, and you don't want that, you want to pass. Now finish the application
Step 4:
Ok, you finished the application, now go apply in a couple of more spots online just like this. 3 Business days after you apply you need to call the store and ask an associate to speak to a manager about employment. Make yourself sound professional. Once the manager picks up tell them you name and that you applied for employment at their store and that you would like to see where you stand. They will usually look around for the application and tell you that they will call you back on a certain day. Thank them, now call up the other places that you applied to and do the same.
Step 5
Now should be the day that they need to call you. Wait until maybe 2 or 3pm. If you don't get a call then call the store, and tell the associate you would like to speak to a manager about employment. When the manager picks up tell them your name and tell them that you applied for employment and that you would like to know where you stand. Now they will either tell you to come in for an interview, in which case move on to step 6, that they aren't hiring right now, in which case you just forget about it, or that they will call you back, in which case you need to repeat step 5 and call them back again.
Step 6
Ok, now this is important. Clean yourself up, put on a dress shirt, maybe a tie, some nice pants and some nice shoes. Dress formal, as if you're the manager of the whole place. Be on time for your interview! When you get there tell an associate that you have a job interview, they will call the manager. Put on a smile, sound professional, and take it from here. Know how to lie, they will ask you "Tell me a bit about yourself " make up shit about your interest in their company, your great communication skills, and your need for a job to help support your family etc etc. They will ask why you want to work for their company, why did you leave your previous job etc etc. You are on your own from here...
Just be confident, smile, try to sound professional, and fight for the job. If they say they will call you, and they don't call you, you call them. This is your job, you deserve it, fight for it.

Re: ITT: I help you find a job.
god, i hate the looking for work/hiring process. it's such bullshit. fucking get all dressed up and have to answer retarded aptitude questions to work at god damn kmart. then once they hire you, it's like a wave of relief because you know you don't have to act like little miss cock anymore and can relax. then when you start working you see that all the company standards and customer service bullshit they made you watch in training is just that, bullshit. and no one actually follows the rules much at all, and you feel like you should've just been hired walking in there in a wife beater, and telling the bitch "yeah, i can do this job. it's fucking easy and i need the money, so i'll show up everyday," and that should be it.

i think the majority of people who need this just like to read through it but not actually do anything about it. they're teenagers who could get a job but don't need one to survive so they, if i may borrow a saying from the brits/australians, "can't be fucked."

From what I've read/experienced... it's more about consistency. They'll ask you the same question 4 times, but reworded 4 different ways. For example "Have you ever stolen?" and "Is it OK to steal?" and "What if it's only 10 cents?" and "Your friend stole something, should you tell on them?" - something along those lines. Don't second guess yourself either. If it asks you a question and you're not sure... just pretend you've been a saint all the your life and answer accordingly.

I'm not sure if someone already mentioned this but you should never give out your SSN/SIN (social #) till employment is guaranteed. Just write "upon employment" on the line requesting it.

but online employment applications require it. and there's no way to write anything but nine digits or it won't let you go on. they also do a background check, and possibly a credit check, at that point and they want your social security number. you must agree in the terms of the application to provide it to apply to the company.

I was with you up until this point. In the store I work in, nothing irritates managers more than people we don't want to hire calling/stopping by to ask about their application. If they want to hire you, they will call you.
If you do insist on doing this, you won't even get to speak to a real manager. In our store, they send some lower person over (who claims to be the manager) to basically tell the applicant, again, that if we want to hire them then we will call them.
Don't constantly check up on your apps. It just annoys your potential employers. If you have to check back, they've probably already decided not to hire you.

Thanks for the advice... may come handy later on...! Although these advices are somewhat useless upon getting a professional job. Any way thanks

I'm telling you, if they don't contact you, they don't want to hire you. In fact, checking up might even negatively influence the chances of them hiring you if they haven't decided yet and you manage to annoy them.
But go ahead, be that guy if you want. Be my guest.

I can confirm this. The only exception is if you personally dropped off your resume to a manager and had a little casual interview/conversation about your skills/experience right on the spot, and he/she said something like "expect a call from me" but didn't call.

maybe in the store you work in, in my experience when i got my job the only reason i got it was cause i was the only person that called them back
there were a pile of apps of better people than me but none of them called back

Go back and read my post, and then read what you posted. Read it again, and see that you called them back, meaning they had already called you once.
OP was saying to put in an application and then just stop by/call without reference to any further communication from your potential employer. See the difference?
See how I'm still right? I thought so.

Re: ITT: I help you find a job.
Only do follow-ups, with retail like jobs. If you're going for a professional job don't call them unless they give you a business card. If didn't then they don't want you to call them. So I think!
