Said I was fortunate enough to have enough refills on my Wellbutrin and Celexa to tide me over for months (which was true) but that I will soon need another prescription for my Adderall, which, unfortunately, I couldn't seem to get any refills for.

Was I taking this before? Yes...ten months prior, before I went off to jail. Did I let him know this? Nope.

Are you familiar with the HIPAA laws these days? They're in place to protect patient's privacy (among other things but this is the important feature...for you and I at least) and with this law in place doctor A cannot contact doctor B about anything pertaining to me and my past treatment without express written consent from me upon signing a release, which I can modify to allow only release, only receipt, or full exchange of information between these two doctors.

Are many doctors going to bother getting this form and shit together and organizing the release to get in touch with the other guy to confirm what you tell him? If you're trying to get OCs, or are awful at what you're doing, then yes, it's quite possible. Will they do it for a respectable looking person inquiring about a low-dose Adderall prescription? Probably not.

He asked me some basic shit about my "symptoms", and how the Adderall helped me. Here's the key: tell them it calms you down. I always top it off with some shit like "I was somewhat skeptical about getting it at first because I seem to get kinda anxious sometimes and I realized it was a stimulant, but when I started taking it it seemed to have the opposite effect on me." (Which it should if being used for legitimate purpose of ADD/ADHD)

Told him how I'm trying to find a new psychiatrist, but, well, shucks, doc, you know how difficult it can be to get in to see one of those guys these days, and my Adderall runs out in a week. He says it's "No problem" to help me out with it now, but that he prefers if I get into a psych ASAP so they can provide for me instead. Hell, I even asked him for a referall. :)

Asked how much Adderall I was taking; told him 10 mg IR twice a day. Nice, low, reasonable dose. Why not XR? Because there's no generics, and I'm fucking cheap, doc. Well, I used different words, but you get the drift...

So I leave with 60x 10 mg IRs, and the next month I went up to 15 mgs without much effort whatsoever.

If a doc tries giving you XR just say you heard it's expensive and was wondering if the IRs happened to have generics instead. Works 90% of the time.
