| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

Just some insight about the war...
I just want to know what everyone thinks about the war (not being over there or not, the actual fighting).
You see, insurgents will often beat our troops to death or torture them when they are captured, but yet when we get their troops they are commonly let back out into society??? wtf
They hide behind women and children. They claim to be serving some kind of god, but just kill people for no reason...
Why do we care so much for these idiots? Why is there so much yellow tape around the fighting and why do a lot of Americans pity these assholes?
Sure, there are a lot of innocent people, but just as in other wars there are sacrifices... if a terrorist is hiding in a building with civilians, why the hell not shell it. It seems brutal, yes, but if they could kill all of us (and yes, i mean me and you!) they would do it. I am not suggesting targeting civilians, but if they are in the way, WTF are our soldiers supposed to do?????? People need to stop whining about dead civilians in Iraq. It's a horrible thing, yes, but at the same time it is not our fault. I wish people would stop being pansies and understand that.

Re: Just some insight about the war...
It is your fault. You brought an illegal war to their doorstep and now that it hasn't been going so well you blame those that oppose your neoliberal imperialist occupation.
When was the last time you heard of an American soldier being kidnapped in Iraq and tortured to death? Because I don't think I've heard that story...I DID hear the stories about the CIA black op prisons and 'enhanced interrogation techniques', Guantanamo Bay and no habeus corpus for the last 8 years (until a few weeks ago), Abu Gharib and government approved torture (including a few who were tortured to death), and your Presidents approval of waterboarding.
Not only is it your fault collectively, but if you specifically voted for George Bush in '04 I believe you hold some personal responsibility for the 4000 American families that no longer have a son or daughter, not to mention the million Iraqi civilians that everyone seems to sweep under the rug.
...
Vote Obama

Re: Just some insight about the war...
We're supposed to be liberating the Iraqis, not killing them. The goal of setting up a democracy won't work very well when the entire population hates you. Bombing buildings is just what the terrorists would want us to do, it would invoke anger in the Iraqi people. This isn't WWII where you just had to show how powerful and tough you were or who could destroy the most shit to beat the other government into submission. This is a long task of weeding out the bad guys. This is a modern day guerilla war.

That took 2 seconds to find. There are lots of these stories.

Abu Gharib wasn't government sanctioned, waterboarding is non-torture that has been used for about 5 minutes over the past 7 years, prove that there has been torture in CIA prisons.

The Iraqi government doesn't even claim there have been a million casualties. But, since you care so much about Iraqis, why do you think the violence would just stop if we left?
...
Vote Obama...Kill a million Iraqis.

What does this supposed civil war have to do with opposing our occupation?
What do the death squads have to do with opposing our occupation?
What do the suicide bombings aimed at civilians have to do with opposing our occupation?
What do foreign fighters have to do with our occupation?

Re: Just some insight about the war...
So the last time you heard of American soldiers captures/'tortured to death' was last year. That sure is 'often'.
I'm not saying there is an easy answer for Iraq now. There isn't. You guys are fucked. Absolutely 100% fucked. Leave? Terrorist hotspot for the forseeable future, you'd be lucky if a pro-Iran theocracy didn't spring up. Stay? Send more soldiers into the meat grinder for no real discerning objectives other than keeping the peace in a country you so pigheadedly invaded.
You all have blood on your hands since you didn't oppose the ILLEGAL war in the first place you murdering fascists.
If you Americans care so much about maintaining democracy and liberating people why don't you go take out Mugabe?

The civil war was created for the same reason we occupy. We took out their government. Now they are fighting for power.

Death squads came to what they are today because the decision was made early on that we would occupy rather than keep their prior infrastructures.

For press coverage. Everytime someone from here goes over there for the cameras as a political stunt saying everything is going well due to the occupation, the spot they were saying that from get suicide bombed a week later to show that everything is not fine.

We are the foreign fighters in the occupation. We have also made it possible for any foreigner to come into that country and become another foreign fighter. Well, not only foreign fighter, but also terrorist.

Re: Just some insight about the war...
We don't bomb civvies like Israel does because we like to maintain a facade of a moral high ground. Due process and keeping back wanton destruction is still better than leaving Iraq nothing but smouldering rubble, even though we rushed in on a whim which can very well be constrewn as aan act of aggression.
Btw, neocons are the scum of the earth.
