| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

A question about McCain's Iraq stance...
I saw one of those intro clips on one of those shows where he says "We sure showed them what a comeback looks like, " is that directed towards the Iraq war and 9/11? Does he truely believe that Iraq was a good idea?

Yeah, I think he's been quoted on saying "we'll say there for 100 years if we have to" or something.

Re: A question about McCain's Iraq stance...
McCain's stance essentially consists of the position that whether you think Iraq was a good idea or not, the consequences of pulling out before the country is stable (and thus allowing the terrorists to sweep in and take over) would leave the country in the same state as Afghanistan pre-9/11, which is to say a haven for terrorists and a staging ground for attacks on the west. This, he predicts, would just necessitate our going back there later when it's the training ground for the next major attack on American soil. As far as improvements go, yes, his surge idea has pretty much worked. It cut violence in the country dramatically and the infrastructure is starting to develop rather rapidly there. McCain's philosophy is that we should stay until the Iraqis can take care of themselves, which, considering that most of the military operations are being handled by the Iraqi forces nowadays, with coalition forces there merely as backup, doesn't seem to be that far away.

Re: A question about McCain's Iraq stance...
Are you kidding me? Everytime I turn on the news I see "Iraqi security forces say they are inadequately equipped." and "today in Iraq, an entire Iraqi security team left their post." Why are we trying to force god's gift of democracy upon the Iraqis?

They deserve it as much as anyone else does. The real question is if they are ready for it. Probably the newer generation is, but the older generation is still in power. They are like the Christian Fundamentalist of the west. Those guys aren't ready for democracy either. Fundamentalist are never ready for a democracy. They lack the liberal attitude and independent thought for it.

Re: A question about McCain's Iraq stance...
Lulz @ "Iraqis handling their own security"... in W&C there are people over there in the US Army who talk about how the Iraqi troops are incompetent idiots and how they have to do all the work and give the credit to the Iraqi Army.
A couple months ago I was watching footage of a battle in Iraq between the terrists and US/Iraqi troops. The Iraqi commander would not send his troops forward and the US commander was arguing with him about it. When the US commander finally convinced him to send his troops forward, they had all left for lunch
What a fucking disaster. And BTW, the "We're already there, so we have to stay the course" argument works the first couple of times, but after you've used it again and again and again it starts to lose its effectiveness.
