What does it mean to be "Gods chosen people"
I often hear Christians, particually the evangelicals, refers to the Jews as Gods chosen people. But what the hell does that mean? I could never find a clear answer. Can anyone explain it?

Re: What does it mean to be "Gods chosen people"
Whoever uses that term, or ones like it, is falling prey to the illusion of separation, losing sight of the fact that we are all one, and holding back their spiritual evolution.
The false idea that one religion, nation, gender , sexual orientation, ethnicity, whatever is somehow superior to others is the cause of much of the misery in the world. You know, unpleasant stuff like wars, racism, sexism, and jihads.

Well he obviously wasn't talking about whatever god, But the God described in the bible.
Why do you feel the need to spew your newage bullshit at every opportunity?
Edit: Basically it means that God chose the Jews, and by extension the Christians and the Muslims and they're supposed to to follow a specific set of rules.

Specifically, in the Hebrew Bible, called the Old Testament by Christians, and the Tanach by Jews, the phrase Chosen People refers to the ancient Hebrews/Israelites. In the Book of Deuteronomy, God proclaims the Nation of Israel, known originally simply as the Hebrews, as His chosen people above all others.(Deuteronomy 7:6) As mentioned in the book of Exodus, the Hebrew people are God's chosen people and from them shall come the Messiah, or redeemer of the human race. The Israelites also possess the "Word of God" and/or "Law of God" in the form of the Torah as communicated by God to Moses. Jews and, by extension, Christians consider themselves to be the "chosen people" Adherents to Islam make, by the same extension as Christians, the same claim of chosenness by accepting what they see as the validity of the Law of God as told by Moses; as do other religions that are built on those same laws.
