Hey , I got a job
Well I got a job being a sales representative for CUTCO , selling a different array of knives from kitchen , fishing , to hunting knives. Information here http://www.cutco.com/customer/howToBuy.jsp . I saw the job on craiglist and went yesterday for an interview , it was a group interview and about 1/4 of the people got hire me being the first. The base pay is 18.25 per appointment which last about an hour or less , so im not stressed if I dont sell I wont make money since im being paid on just showing the merchandise. If I do sell I make 10% commision which would be 25 dollars for a standard set of 250 dollars knives , the market is middleclass married families. So If I do about just 5 appointments a day 5 days a week ill net like 430 after taxes im presuming per week , thats without any commision. I was wondering if this is a good job for someone just out of highschool ? Since im making double minium wage for the same hour , seemd pretty good to me. Anyone have any advice ? Also I wanted to ask what would be a good way to saving some of this money ? Im completely new to banks and everything but want to start off good.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Hey , I got a job
BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its a scam.
my brother worked for cutco. They will hire anyone....
Their real name is vector marketing I believe.
They give good pay in their adverts. When my brother applied, they said $14 an hour, no experience. He called them up. Got hired.
They have a weird pay scale. Its not 14 an hour. Its not even base pay. You get nothing unless you sell...
They said its not a door to door or cold calling job. And thats exactly what the job was.
And let me tell you something, You will NOT be paid per appointment...thats what they told my bro.
How do you expect to be paid such good money even if your not selling? Than multiply that by all the others who got hired. Noone would be selling anything if they had such great base pay. Thats how they get you. And they have to advertise on creigslist because many jobsearch sites have blocked them.
They say they only have a "few" positions open, but they hire EVERYONE who comes to the group interview.
Also, you forgot to mention how they made you BUY your "demo kit"...
Lemme guess, they also said they are a fortune 500 company right? (which theyre not. They buy their knives from a fortune 500 company.)
They tell you you will be your own boss. Hard to believe considering you work under a manager, hae to make calls, write sales reports, all that shit..
When calling a customer to solicit a meeting at their home, they teach you to say that your trying to perfect a presentation, or get some experience. They NEVER want you to say your coming over their house to try to sell them knives.
they been sued many times by arizona and minisota and other states for deceiving their "independent contractors". thats what they call them so they can get away with NOT PAYING THEM.
I know all this because I decided to listen in on one of their "interviews" I was curious. That was about 2 days after my bro got hired.
http://www.ripoffreport.com/searchre...&Search=Search
I hope you dint already buy their demo kit, cause you just been scammed...
EDIT: to be fair, they ARE great knives. We still use the ones my bro bought for his demo kit.
And thats another way they get you. Regular cutco sale people organize a "job interview". Than hire everyone. That way not only do they get a sale from the mandatory demo kit, but they also refer someone, which gets them a percentage of your sales for a set period of time. Not sure how long though.
More EDIT: If you have yet to go to their UNPAID training, than get out while you still can with your money in your pocket. Thats where they make you buy the demo kit. If you refuse to buy, your fired.
They make you attend a shit load of "meetings", all which are unpaid. They say its to help the new guys. Share some tips. Its nothing more than a table, and a pizza. Sure dont get me wrong, I like free pizza, but theres things you could be doing.
They do that to make you feel like you have a great job.
They also call you every week, to follow up on how your week went. How much did you sell. And when you say zero, he launches into a poorly scripted spiel that lasts like 15 minutes, and you dont want to just hang up cause he is your boss...
They have a HUGE turnover rate for obvious reasons. The only way they they remained in business is because the majority, if not all of the sales the sales people get, are friends and family. Thats about the time they realize its all a scam and "quit".
Theres just so much more on them but my hands are getting tired. Yeah they look good on paper, with their supposed great pay and all, but trust me youll wish you never met them after you quit.

Re: Hey , I got a job
Yeah no problem man.
But you can still go to the training if you want. just for shits and giggles. I am kinda curious to see if they changed any of their sales tactics to reflect the numerous court orders, and since the last time I went. Back in 2004 I believe.
If I remember correctly they make you compile a list of people you know, who are all over 25, and have a job. With their address and number. Than you hand it in to them.
I always assumed the person who recruited you (whether they be regular sales men or a "manager") visits them to try to sell them the knives. (like you said, middle class ).
Than after your "training" when you go to try sell them, you usually would visit friends and family first. And wouldnt you know it, they already been visited. So the guy who recruited you pretty much had the first crack at them.

Re: Hey , I got a job
haha, they really are called cutco? lawl. i thought my friend was just being stupid.
but yeah, vector. OP, had you heard of them before? i've been getting letters in the mail from vector aka cutco since i was 16, telling me about job opportunities. me and the friend i mentioned above ran into another guy we know from high school who said he was working for them, and he insisted it was not a scam. he told us about some awards banquet they had and some girl who had only been working there for a few days won like a vacation to the bahamas and other people got bonuses in the thousands of dollars, etc.
my friend was impressed so he applied online, then proceeded to miss his interview because it was at 4:45 am saturday morning, haha, and then proceeded to get a call telling him his training starts next week. so he figured if he didn't even go to the interview, how the fuck could he get hired, and it must be a scam. though that other guy seemed happy about working there but i think he's only been there a few months at the most, so...

same with my area. so you've got to drive out to richer parts miles away on your own time and dime to find customers. even if this wasn't a scam, it'd probably be more profitable just to get a minimum wage job in your immediate area instead.

Re: Hey , I got a job
I suppose you COULD make money if You dont mind ripping people off.
Just set up your own interview, hire everyone, and at training they will need to buy the demo kit. And bam, you got sales, plus referrals.
Im guessing thats how most of them get sales in the first place.

Re: Hey , I got a job
Its a scam. I bought into back as a teen.
They make YOU shell out something like 200 bucks for your first set that you use to show customers. And they make you run through a list of friends and family for you to practice on. And then the idea is for you to take advantage of them and get them to give you names and numbers of their friends and family and so on.
I went to training with a buddy of mine. About halfway through the second day we just walked out.
